Two Rams media personalities said that every RB except Zach Evans is like a bowling balls
In an OTA video that the Los Angeles Rams released earlier this week, JB Long and D’Marco Farr were breaking down what they were seeing out of the early organized activities. The duo had plenty of positives to say about the Rams and part of these videos is surface level and just to hype up the upcoming team and season, but at times they can explore a bit deeper. The topic that caught my interest had to do with LA’s running back room.
When talking about the group Farr said: “Do all the running backs look alike body-wise? Save for one, right? They all look alike like little bowling balls.”
That quote supports the perception that Kyren Williams and Blake Corum might be very similiar in style, but they also go on to say that newly added RB Boston Scott fits this mold as well. The only RB that apparently doesn’t match the “bowling ball” description would be Zach Evans who is going into his second year with the team.
Long was the one to point out Evans being a bit different then the other backs and he discussed Scott as well, “Zach Evans, second year running back is the exception that kind of proves the rule, but Boston Scott fits right in with that group.”

Turf Show Times has previously pondered if Evans will be the odd man out when it comes time for Sean McVay and Les Snead to make final roster decisions, however if Evans is the only different RB in the room then perhaps the Rams will want to keep him so they can mix up their rushing attack.
Farr later would continue, “All these guys are big, squatty and muscular type guys. You could almost tell the gameplan just by looking at the running backs.”
It does appear the Rams want each RB to be similar in style, but LA may also want a change of pace back, and Evans might be able to provide that. Even with Williams missing OTA’s the plan going into the season with Williams as lead running back is probably still the plan, but if he can’t get healthy, and if Evans provides something that none of the other RBs can, then it certainly will be interesting to see the final depth chart for the LA ball carriers. Maybe you think LA should’ve done more at the position?

1. The Rams haven’t signed another RB
2. Weak competition from Ronnie Rivers & Zach Evans

Perhaps we’ll learn more when the players put the pads on in the coming months, but we really won’t know what the carries look like until game time. Williams was far and away LA’s best overall running back since Todd Gurley, but can Williams hold down that spot again, or will we see new a new face emerge at RB for the second season in a row?
Afterall, last year it was projected by many Cam Akers would be the starter, but Williams earned the nod. Who out of the room of “bowling balls” will sustain lead back duties this season? Can LA find a free agent RB to add who could take a bulk of the carries? Or could it be a second-year player in Evans who really didn’t do much stat wise his rookie season?
If Williams took lead back duties in his second year after a not so sterling rookie campaign, then certainly Evans has a chance too. However likely that scenario isn’t, history sure can have a funny way of repeating itself.
