Rams get QB phenom in ESPN mock draft

Would Drew Allar fall to the Rams in 2026?

If the Rams end up with Drew Allar in next year’s draft, it could mean that either L.A. had a disappointing season or Allar did, but some analysts believe the two would be a good fit in any case. That includes ESPN’s Matt Miller, who mocked Allar to the Rams at pick 26 in his 2026 mock draft this week.

Miller has the Rams picking 27th, which would mean that Allar didn’t live up to expectations of potentially being the number one pick if he has a strong final season for the Nittany Lions.

With Matthew Stafford entering his age-37 season, this would be a good spot for the Rams to pick his eventual successor. Allar is a big-armed quarterback with good mobility for his size (6-foot-5, 238 pounds), but he hasn’t quite put it all together. He has the arm to make any throw and can escape crowded pockets but goes through cold stretches where his decision-making and accuracy drop off. His development in 2024, in which he increased his completion percentage from 59.9% to 66.5%, is encouraging and suggests that more improvement is on the way.

Allar, a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, has started the last two seasons at Penn State.

  • 2023: 60% completions, 2,631 yards, 25 TD, 2 INT in 13 games, 136.9 rating
  • 2024: 66.5% completions, 3,327 yards, 24 TD, 8 INT in 16 games, 153.5 rating

Allar also rushed for six touchdowns last season.

But if Allar had been even better, nothing would have held him back from entering the 2025 draft and competing with Cam Ward for the number one pick. Instead, he’s gone back to school to earn another NIL paycheck and try to improve his stock into being a top-3 pick in 2026. He’ll have to do without all-everything tight end Tyler Warren, the first round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. (Coincidentally also a team that probably needs a QB next year.)

Allar may show the improvement he needs to show in 2025, but if the Rams win 10 or more games that should put him out of their range.

If the Rams pick in the low-20s and they pick Allar, that would mean he’s had a very Jaxson Dart-like performance during draft season.

We know Matthew Stafford is 37 — we’ll be hearing it over and over again and it’ll only stop because he eventually has to turn 38 — but should the Rams reach on a first round QB just because of it? Maybe a quarterback will be the best choice, but it certainly won’t be the only choice.
