Not everyone thinks the Rams will use their draft capital for a QB next year
After stealing the Atlanta Falcons first-round pick in next year’s draft and avoiding taking a rookie quarterback, the Los Angeles Rams seem to be in a great spot in 2026 to get their QB of the future. However, the one thing that Sean McVay has never done in his tenure as a NFL Head Coach has been to develop a young signal-caller. Sure, he did save Jared Goff’s career after being labeled a bust in his first year with Jeff Fisher, but McVay chose to trade him away for a veteran who could run his system without any obstacles. Who’s to say the Rams wouldn’t do the same in 2026?
“They may not even have one of these picks ahead of the trade deadline depending on how their own season and Atlanta’s season is going,” Jordan Rodrigue of the Athletic explained on an episode of Heed the Call. “If they’re winning a lot and Atlanta is winning a lot they may trade it for a star who can help them go on a playoff run. I actually don’t have much proof that Sean McVay can develop and has the patience to develop a rookie quarterback long term and there’s a level of understanding and information that he’s grown accustomed to with Matthew Stafford.”
If the team’s all in approach continues throughout the season it could feel a lot like Deja-vu to 2021 when Les Snead was able to bring in Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. on their way to a Super Bowl victory. They could also look to add a veteran QB to fill Stafford’s eventual vacancy and use the first round picks to continue to add to their core group. There were reports this offseason that Jimmy Garoppolo could be a good replacement if a deal with Stafford didn’t get done.
How would you like to see LA use their first round picks? Should they use it for an impactful player during the season or land their QB of the future in the draft? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
