The Rams are donating $5 million to kick off a fundraising initiative by LA28 to fund ticket donations to local groups for the 2028 Olympic Games, the organizing committee for the Games announced on Thursday.
LA28 is encouraging sports franchises in the Los Angeles-Orange County market, philanthropists and other partners to contribute to a fund to donate tickets to local community organizations.
The ticket donations “will go directly into the hands of local community organizations to distribute within their communities,” LA28 said in a statement.
SoFi Stadium, the Rams’ home, will host the opening ceremonies for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The nearby Hollywood Park Studios will be the home of the International Broadcast Center (IBC) for the Games.
“The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are for everyone,” LA28 chairman Casey Wasserman said in a statement. “This program is about making sure that the people who live, work and contribute to the spirit of Los Angeles can access the Games taking place in their hometown.”
Los Angeles’ third Olympic Games will have a total of approximately 14 million tickets across 51 sports with ticket sales and hospitality projected to bring in $2.5 billion in revenue. By comparison, the 2024 Olympics in Paris sold 12.1 million tickets.
A LA28 spokesperson said how many of those 14 million tickets will be donated has not been set, but the amount of donated tickets would depend on the the financial contributions to the initiative.
Which community organizations will receive tickets will be determined by LA28 working with financial donors. Distribution of tickets will be at the discretion of the recipient organizations, according to a spokesperson.
LA28 said it will share additional information on eligibility for the ticket donation program at a later date. Local non-profits and community organizations that are interested in the program can email community_tickets@la28.org.
The organization said it will also be releasing information on a local ticket pre-sale opportunity next year.
