The Los Angeles Rams have quietly put together a pretty fearsome receiving corps this offseason, but not everyone in it can make the final 53-man roster – not even a team captain.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Rams are releasing wide receiver and team captain Ben Skowronek. The former seventh-round pick was a part of their 2021 Super Bowl team and played in 45 games over his three years with the team.
“The Rams released WR Benny Skowronek, per source. He was a seventh round pick in 2021 and emerged into team captain last year,” Russini wrote.
But while Skowronek may have been a leader for the Rams, he wasn’t exactly one of its most productive as most of his contributions were on special teams. As a receiver, he had eight receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown in 2023 while adding 13 tackles as a special teamer.
Skowronek might not have a place on the Rams’ depth chart, but judging by the replies, fans of the other 31 teams seem thrilled at the idea of bringing him into the fold.
“Not every day you can find a WR/FB utility player. Dude is meant to play for the Fightin’ Dan Campbells,” one user declared.
“The #Vikings added Trent Sherfield for a reason, but given the Rams/playbook experience, and Skowronek’s willingness to block in the run game, I could see the fit making a lot of sense,” wrote another.
“Solid ST player (13 total in 2023) and can even function effectively as a FB if needed. #Steelers #NFL,” a Steelers fan noted.
Skowronek might have been cut, but he might not be unemployed for long.
