The Carolina Panthers announced they have agreed to terms with former Los Angeles Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom on a one-year contract.
After originally going undrafted out of South Dakota State, Rozeboom played one game for the Kansas City Chiefs before spending a majority of the last four seasons with the Rams.
In 61 career games, the linebacker has started 16 of them and recorded 225 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions.
Rozeboom is coming off a career year in which he appeared in all 17 games for the Rams, starting 11 of them and finishing with a career-high 135 tackles and five tackles for loss with a sack and an interception. He led the Rams in total tackles during the 2024 season.
With the loss of Rozeboom, the Rams will have to address the linebacker position in either the draft or free agency. Omar Speights came on strong at the end of last season and projects to be a starter in 2025, but the depth outside of him is nonexistent, especially with Troy Reeder also hitting free agency.
The Rams typically have not valued the linebacker position highly so will not devote significant resources to it, but it’s still something that needs to be addressed at some point this offseason.
Rams defense losing key pieces in free agency
In addition to Christian Rozeboom, the Rams have also lost some pieces of their defense in free agency. Michael Hoecht has signed with the Buffalo Bills while Bobby Brown III is joining Rozeboom in Carolina.
The Rams have also lost another linebacker and special teams player with Jake Hummel signing with the Baltimore Ravens, and finally, Neville Gallimore is headed to the Indianapolis Colts.
While the Rams have added Poona Ford to their defensive line, their other additions so far have come on the offensive side of the ball. The team still has some cap space to work with but will likely focus on defense again in the 2025 NFL Draft.
