Josh Allen against Matthew Stafford would be an intriguing Super Bowl
In the same game that Josh Allen made NFL history, Matthew Stafford willed the Rams to a victory over the Bills by continuing the most unheralded hot streaks in the league. With 320 yards and 2 touchdowns, Stafford is up to 10 touchdowns and no interceptions in L.A.’s last four games.
Is it too little, too late for Stafford’s MVP campaign?
Yes.
But take a look at these numbers:
- In the last 7 games: 1,911 yards, 16 touchdowns, 3 interceptions
- Rams are 5-2
- Wins over Vikings, Seahawks, and Bills
As good as Allen was, becoming the first QB in NFL history to have three touchdowns in both the air and on the ground, Stafford twice extended L.A.’s lead with clutch touchdown passes in the first half:
3rd quarter, :22 – Stafford 17-yard TD to Cooper Kupp, 38-21
4th quarter, 2:00 – Stafford 19-yard TD to Puka Nacua, 44-35 (missed PAT)
@JoeA_NFL charted a high percentage of elite, great, and solid throws by Stafford, with only 6 “bad” and 0 “interceptable” in a must-win game against one of the top teams in the AFC:
Week 14 Charts!
Rams vs Bills was the game of the YEAR!Matt Stafford with one of the performances of the year. Baller.
Sam Darnold got lucky on a few prayers, but he was DAMN good in his own right.
Josh Allen was pretty rough in the first half… but then he came up as clutch… pic.twitter.com/FfOCMVUlsx— Joe (@JoeA_NFL) December 9, 2024
Stafford’s season didn’t get off to the start that he or the Rams hoped for, but the team had to play most of that stretch without Puka Nacua or Cooper Kupp. Obviously when those two get on the field with Stafford at the same time, the Rams could be the most dangerous offense in the NFC.
And that also makes L.A. one of the most dangerous teams in the conference period, and arguably the last team that the Eagles or Lions want to host in the playoffs.
The Rams are now 7-6 and must beat the 49ers on Thursday Night Football to separate themselves from the bottom of the NFC West. If L.A. can win their next game, they could force the Cardinals and Seahawks to have to beat them in the final two weeks of the season to keep them from winning the division.
Allen was great. Don’t let that overshadow the fact that Stafford was even better.
