“No Longer Gonna Be Here” – Dolphins Coach Confirms Inevitable Trade

May 24, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Even though he’s still a member of the team, everyone in the NFL world knows the Miami Dolphins will trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey before the start of the regular season. A three-time First-Team All-Pro, Ramsey isn’t quite as dominant as he was at his peak but remains a reliable starter. Starting in all 17 games, Ramsey finished the 2024 season with two interceptions, one sack, 11 passes defended, 60 tackles, and a 76.9 PFF grade, the 10th-best mark in the league.

Despite his strong play, the Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey both announced they’re looking for a trade. While nothing materialized during the 2025 NFL Draft, recent comments by cornerbacks coach Mathieu Araujo confirm the star cornerback will not return in 2025.

“Look at the guys we got – what a great opportunity to step up because [Ramsey] was a starter that’s no longer gonna be here.”

“No Longer Gonna Be Here” – Dolphins Coach Calls Jalen Ramsey Trade Inevitable

Financially speaking, the Dolphins will probably wait until after June 1st to trade Jalen Ramsey. If they move him before that date, they’ll take a $25.2 million dead cap hit. However, if they wait, they can spread the dead money over multiple years and save $9.9 million in cap space. Ramsey may no longer be the best cornerback in football, but several teams should be interested in securing his services.

Possible Fits

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are in the midst of their Super Bowl window, but they’ll struggle to recapture their regular season dominance in 2025. With former coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn departed, head coach Dan Campbell must add more talent to compensate for the loss in coaching ability. The secondary is the weakest part of Detroit’s roster, especially after losing Carlton Davis to the New England Patriots. A Jalen Ramsey trade would give Detroit a lockdown cornerback, and the Dolphins would probably prefer to send him to an NFC rival.

Los Angeles Rams

Jalen Ramsey spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, and a reunion could be in order. Matthew Stafford is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, which means the team should be all-in on hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in 2025.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have two reliable starting cornerbacks in veteran Marlon Humphrey and 2024 first-round pick Nate Wiggins. However, they could use a third cornerback, especially since they share a division with the Cincinnati Bengals and must go through the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Chargers to make the Super Bowl. Baltimore would easily have the NFL’s best secondary if the Dolphins trade Jalen Ramsey to the Ravens, which might be enough to get them over the hump in the AFC.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are not legitimate contenders, but they could still reach out to the Dolphins about a Jalen Ramsey trade. Bryce Young looked like the real deal down the stretch, and the NFC South is wide open. Carolina desperately needs a winning season, and Ramsey’s presence could be enough to get this team to the top of a weak division.
