Last night the Los Angeles Rams made their first pick in the first round of an NFL Draft since 2016 but had a little bit of trouble getting in touch with their eventual pick.
According to NFL reporter Andrew Siciliano, Rams head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead couldn’t call Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse to tell him that he’d been drafted.
The reason? They had the wrong phone number for him. Apparently, the number they had saved for him was a digit off the one they needed to call.
“Sean McVay and Les Snead had trouble calling Jared Verse. McVay: “Wrong damn number!” One digit off,” Siciliano wrote.
Video shows that McVay and Snead eventually wound up getting in touch with Verse. But it would definitely be hilarious to see and hear what the original call sounded like when they called the wrong number. That’s got to be somewhere in the NFL Films library.
Verse was widely seen as a very solid pick for the Rams. With the recent retirement of all-world defensive tackle Aaron Donald, the Rams needed to add someone to augment their pass rush. Verse does exactly that.
In 2023, Verse had 9.0 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss on a Florida State Seminoles team that went 13-1 and won the ACC Championship game.
Will Jared Verse be a star for the Rams as a rookie?
