There are all kinds of pre-draft trade rumors circulating in the hours before the NFL Draft. One of the big ones involves the Los Angeles Rams and their efforts to move up – but Dianna Russini wants to pour cold water on the excitement.
Taking to X, the NFL insider from The Athletic reported that while the Rams are looking to trade up into the top 10, they’re not looking at drafting a quarterback. She wrote that the team has “a specific player in mind.”
“The Rams, who haven’t picked in the first round since 2016, are calling to get into the top 10, per sources,” she wrote at 1:43 p.m. ET.
“The Rams are pursuing this trade into the top 10 with a specific player in mind and it’s not a quarterback, per sources,” Russini wrote two hours later.
If the Rams are trying to trade into the top 10, it stands to reason that they would be looking for a quarterback. Matthew Stafford is getting a little bit long in the tooth.
But if a quarterback isn’t the goal, they might have fallen in love with a particular wide receiver or an offensive tackle and see the rest of the draft class as well below that player’s potential.
The Rams currently hold the 19th overall pick and have not made a first-round selection in nearly a decade.
Will they end that streak with a trade into the top 10? If so, who will they wind up taking in the draft?
