The Los Angeles Rams got back on track with a 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6, which saw inside linebacker Nate Landman add his name to the record book.
The 26-year-old recorded 17 total tackles in the game, which set a new Rams franchise record. He passed Mark Barron (2015), Alec Ogletree (2015), James Laurinaitis (2009) and Keith Lyle (1995), who all had 16 total tackles in a single game.
Landman discussed the accomplishment and gave credit to his teammates for putting him in a good position, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“What a blessing to play behind this defensive front,” Landman said postgame. “I can’t do what I do without those guys. And shout out to (defensive coordinator Chris) Shula, shout out to (G-)money (inside linebackers coach Greg Williams). It’s a whole operation. It’s not just me, it’s a team game. So shout out to those guys, grateful for the opportunity to be in those positions. Just happy for the win.”
Landman signed a one-year contract with the Rams during the offseason and has quickly made an impact as he was voted one of the team captains and is also wearing the green dot on defense.
Through six games, Landman has tallied 58 total tackles, four passes defended and a forced fumble.
He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after accumulating 10 tackles in the Rams’ regular season opener and should have a good chance to win the award again for his performance against the Ravens.
Matthew Stafford humbled to pass Dan Marino on NFL all-time passing yards list
Nate Landman wasn’t the only Rams player to make history in their win against the Ravens as Matthew Stafford passed Hall of Famer Dan Marino for ninth on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list.
Stafford discussed the accomplishment after the game and said he is humbled to be mentioned with some of the all-time greats.
“I love this game. I love the history of it,” Stafford said postgame. “I remember being a little kid watching NFL films. Growing up, everybody’s watching cartoons, I was watching that. So it means a lot. I don’t think about it on a daily basis, but when it comes up, I have a ton of reverence and respect for this game and the people that have… come before me and played it. So just to be mentioned with those guys, it’s really humbling, and something that, I’m sure when I’m done playing, I’ll think about more. But kind of one of those pinch-yourself moments where you’re sitting there going, ‘Man, I remember watching him do his thing,’ and just thinking he was unbelievable, and being able to be in the same breath is pretty cool.”
