The Los Angeles Rams looked dead in the water after the first five weeks of the 2024 season as they went 1-4, nearly sinking all hope of a playoff appearance.
However, the Rams turned things around following their bye week and wound up winning the NFC West with a 10-7 record. Los Angeles made light work of the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round before heading on the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were tabbed as a Super Bowl contender because of their stout run game and defense and those two things led them to a close win over the Rams.
Los Angeles wound up being the closest team to beat Philadelphia in the postseason as the latter blew out the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs en route to winning Super Bowl LIX. Heading into the 2025 season, the Eagles are favored to come out of the NFC though the Rams aren’t far behind them after their successful offseason adding win-now pieces to their roster.
Michael Brockers knows Los Angeles well after spending most of his career with the franchise and expressed his belief that they’ll be the toughest challenge for Philadelphia next season, via NFL Network:
“Sean McVay, his staff, they always draft really well. They kind of know what they’re doing and like I said earlier, they’re silently building a team. They have Davante Adams, Matthew Stafford still has it. … Arm is still there, his mind is still sharp, so I see the Rams being the biggest threat to the Philadelphia Eagles.”
As Brockers noted, the Rams organization from top to bottom does well in just about every category and they’ve set themselves up well to compete for another championship. The Davante Adams acquisition ensures the offense will remain as explosive as ever, while the team invested money and draft capital to boost the defense.
Also, Matthew Stafford returns for at least one more season after restructuring his contract and he gives L.A. a chance to win on any given week. Overall, it’s hard to argue against a Rams team that’s currently expected to win its division again though they still need to prove it on the field.
