It’s a bit of an unknown regarding how the Rams’ tight ends will perform this year as longtime starter Tyler Higbee remains sidelined following a torn ACL and MCL in the team’s playoff loss to Detroit.
That leaves second-year Davis Allen and newly signed Colby Parkinson as the front runners for the starting job. However, the Rams will have two to tight ends on the field at times, depending on various situations and offensive packages.
A tight end can be a quarterback’s best friend, something that’s held true going back decades in football. For Matthew Stafford, the unknown regarding who his starting tight end will be doesn’t seem to be an issue for him.
When asked about the position group, Stafford had this to say.
“It’s been great. They’re a really prepared group,” he said. “They know their assignments. They go out there, they execute them. They’ve done a really nice job in camp so far, so excited for those guys to continue to grow and get reps. For me, whoever’s out there at any position, you just go out there, trust them and try to know them as best you can as far as route running and all those kinds of things. I trust those guys to go out there and do their job.”
High praise from the veteran gunslinger. Only time will tell how effective the tight end room will be but all signs point in the right direction.
