Matthew Stafford Explains How Rams Beat Jaguars’ Blitz

October 21, 2025 by Rams Nation

Matthew Stafford, Rams, Jaguars

The Los Angeles Rams improved to 5-2 on the season after blowing out the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

The Rams didn’t have star wide receiver Puka Nacua but still put up 35 points on a tough Jaguars defense thanks to Matthew Stafford’s precision and accuracy.

The 37-year-old completed 21 of 33 passes for 182 yards and a career-high tying five touchdown passes, three of which went to Davante Adams.

Stafford was often under pressure due to the Jaguars blitzing more than half of the time, but the veteran quarterback enjoyed the challenge and credited them for making his job tough after the game, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“They’re an aggressive team,” Stafford said. “I think their defensive coordinator does a nice job bringing different blitz packages. It was kind of one of those games, like a little bit of tough, tough game to kind of throw and catch with the ball and just the way the field was going. So they were playing sticky coverage a lot and and bringing some pressure. So hats off to them. They’re an aggressive-style defense, they’re really good front. Bunch of first round picks all over that all over that front. I thought most part our guys did a really nice job of just battling.”

The Jaguars’ aggressive game plan on defense proved to be no match for Stafford as he kept his composure and completed passes to 10 different receivers.

In addition to throwing three touchdowns to Adams, Stafford also got rookies Konata Mumpfield and Terrance Ferguson their first career NFL score.

It was another efficient game for Stafford, who now leads the NFL with 17 touchdown passes this season. He also ranks among the top five in passing yards and passer rating, among other offensive categories.

If Stafford is able to maintain this level of play over the course of the season, he could enter the conversation for MVP honors.

Rams’ Davante Adams slowly getting on same page with Matthew Stafford

Coming off his best game with the Rams, Davante Adams said he is slowly getting on the same page as Matthew Stafford.

“Just the intentionality (increased this week),” Adams said. “I went into this week, I told you guys earlier in the week I wasn’t satisfied with the efficiency, specifically him targeting me… some of them have been me, some of them have been the throws, but just figuring it out, being on the right page, just working on a few things (helped).”
