The Los Angeles Rams won their fourth consecutive game with a 19-9 victory over the New York Jets that improved them to 9-6 on the season.
The offense got off to a slow start but eventually picked things up behind a stellar performance from Kyren Williams.
The third-year running back out of Notre Dame rushed for a season-high 122 yards on 23 carries and scored the game-tying touchdown in the second quarter. He also caught his only target for an additional seven yards through the air.
The Rams’ game plan against the Jets was to attack on the ground and Williams believe the team did a good job in that department, via Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com:
“(Head coach Sean McVay) told us we have games like this, we had to bring up, run the ball and do it on our terms and our will and make sure that we dominate that,” Williams recalled. “And I feel like we did that.”
McVay was also pleased with the Rams’ run game and praised Williams and the offensive line for their contributions against the Jets:
“I thought Kyren Williams and the offensive line did a great job being able to create removal,” said head coach Sean McVay. “Didn’t have a lot of plays, but it was good, efficient runs.”
Williams’ longest run of the day went for 13 yards and he impressively did not have any negative play. The 24-year-old also forced three missed tackles against one of the best run defenses in the NFL.
Williams has now surpassed 100 rushing yards in three of the last four games. During that span, he has recorded 421 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
In 15 games this season, Williams has already rushed for a career-high 1,243 yards and 13 touchdowns on 303 attempts. He is averaging 4.1 yards per carry and has also caught 31 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Tyler Higbee: ‘Very humbling to catch touchdown in first game back with Rams
Tyler Higbee was responsible for the Rams’ only other touchdown against the Jets, which came in his first game back since tearing his ACL and MCL last January.
Higbee found paydirt with 10:17 remaining in the fourth quarter, which stood as the game-winner. His teammates went crazy after he dove into the end zone for the 11-yard score.
Higbee said after the game that he is grateful to be back on the field and thanked everyone for supporting him throughout his lengthy recovery.
