Sean McVay has the Rams back in playoff contention thanks to remaining at the front of NFL offense
The Los Angeles Rams are on the cusp of winning the NFC West in the next two weeks if they can take care of business and yet it seems like Sean McVay’s value somehow still gets undersold.
Though the Rams would like to have some early season losses back so they were competing for a number one seed, L.A. has now won eight of their last 10 games to once again rebound for another shot at the postseason: McVay has taken the Rams to the playoffs in five of his first seven years at the helm, so winning the last two games would guarantee six out of eight.
It would also be McVay’s fourth NFC West title since taking over the team in 2017, which would be just one shy of the five division titles that Pete Carroll had in Seattle over 14 years.
And we know how dangerous McVay’s Rams are when they get to the playoffs:
- The Rams have won playoff games in three of their five trips under McVay
- The Rams have been to two Super Bowls in the previous six seasons
- The Rams consistently play better in December and January than they do in September and October
Though McVay’s offense only ranks 18th in points and 16th in yards, they’re doing at least average despite losing their top two skill players for a month, shuffling the offensive line for the first two months, and getting through some rough patches with Matthew Stafford as he moves through his 16th career season.
As he usually is, McVay is on the forefront of effective and efficient offensive creations and has the Rams playing much better on that side of the ball than expected after a 1-4 start. How McVay uses motions this season to create formations is the title of this Rams breakdown video by Wide Zone Warriors:
