Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, and Kenny Golladay all suffered injuries in Week 5
The New York Giants are coming off a tough defeat against their divisional rival the Dallas Cowboys 44-20 in Week 5. Just when it looked like the Giants were starting to get on the right track after defeating the New Orleans Saints in overtime, the injury bug has come to haunt them. It’s not that the Rams should overlook them in any way, but the injuries that occurred were to several key players who are important to the Giants offense starting with their starting quarterback.
Daniel Jones – He has quietly put together a solid start to the 2021 season despite their 1-4 record. He has an 88.0 passing grade per pro football focus and that is second in the league among starting QBs. He also has the lowest interception percentage in the NFL at 0.6%.
With the Giants trailing 10-3 late in the second quarter Sunday, Jones put his body on the line colliding headfirst into a Cowboys defender at the goal line. Jones hobbled off the field, almost falling, and was immediately ruled out for a concussion. Giants head coach Joe Judge spoke with the media Monday in regards to it saying:
It’s doubtful that he will be able to play this week against the Rams if he in fact does have a concussion which is what it looks like that might be the case. Instead, they might be taking on long-time journeyman veteran QB Mike Glennon.

Saquon Barkley – The Giants starting running back got his foot stepped on in the game against the Cowboys and it is believed to be a low-ankle sprain. It is characterized as week-to-week but he will look to avoid missing more than just one game. That one game that he will miss will be against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6 as the Rams defense will look to prepare for backup RB Devontae Booker.

It seems the Giants have dodged a massive bullet here and even head coach Joe Judge alluded to that as well during his press conference. It looked to be a much worse injury from the photo shown of his ankle, and that would’ve been a massive blow because he is the heart and soul of that Giants offense. He already missed the 2020 season with a torn ACL, it would have been a shame if he had to miss significant time again this year.
Kenny Golladay – This past offseason the New York Giants signed Golladay in free agency to a 4-year $72 million deal. He is currently the team’s WR1 even though that could change with the way rookie Kadarius Toney has been playing over the past two weeks. Kenny also got hurt Sunday in the matchup against the Cowboys as it was just an all-around brutal day for the team’s health.
After the game, he stated that he hyperextended his knee in the first quarter and described it as “frustrating” during the game but it got worse as they went along. It happened on a play where he collided with cornerback Trevon Diggs and he said he’ll see how it feels throughout the week. The expectation is that he will miss this week, according to Ian Rapoport.
WR Sterling Shepard, WR Darius Slayton, and LT Andrew Thomas also were ruled out of this past week’s game. We’ll have to keep a close eye on their injury report this week to see if their status will change against LA.
But with all these injuries, according to SI sportsbook the LA Rams are now a 10.5 point favorite in this game. The line moved from 7.5 to 10.5 after the Giants-Cowboys game. The Rams need to just take care of business in this one.
