The Rams made a few big changes, but did they make any mistakes by not making changes?
The Los Angeles Rams will not look much different in 2025 than they did in 2024. Is the lack of changes a mistake? Should the Rams have traded Matthew Stafford? Did they spend money on the right players?
At this rate, there is only one significant change on offense, which is cutting Cooper Kupp to make room for Davante Adams. Otherwise, every starter should be the same as the end of last season.
Defensively, it’s almost the same story.
The Rams have let their linebackers walk and added Nate Landman, plus the addition of defensive tackle Poona Ford. But the team recently re-sign Ahkello Witherspoon, keeping the secondary almost the same as 2024 also. There are no upcoming changes on special teams either.
Is that a mistake? Let us know in the comments if “running it back” is the right decision for maybe the only team that almost beat the Eagles in the playoffs. Is that a good thing or will the Rams be easier to figure out? Did they do enough to address weaknesses?
Here are a few key non-moves:
Non-signings (Average Annual Salary)
CB Carlton Davis ($18m)
CB Charvarius Ward ($18m)
CB Paulson Adebo ($18m)
CB D.J. Reed ($16m)
These cornerbacks got at least $16 million annually. Should the Rams have tried to sign someone like D.J. Reed to bolster a group whose best player might be Darious Williams?
S Jevon Holland ($15m)
S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson ($9m)
S Trevon Moehrig ($17m)
S Cam Bynum ($15m)
S Talanoa Hufanga ($13m)
S Justin Reid ($10.5m)
The Rams are going to rely on the Kam twins at safety again. Would Hufanga have been an upgrade to Kam Curl?
LB Dre Greenlaw ($10.5m)
The most-requested free agent for the Rams to kick the tires on, Dre Greenlaw got a little over $10 million annually from the Broncos. Should L.A. have tried to match it? Landman and Omar Speights are the teams current starters.
Non-trades
LT Laremy Tunsil
Did you know that A.J. Jackson is going to be the team’s third-highest paid player in 2026?
That’s only if they keep Matthew Stafford beyond this season. Was Jackson a good signing at almost $20 million per year, or should the Rams have waited to trade for Laremy Tunsil instead?
QB Matthew Stafford
The Rams had offers on the table from the Raiders and Giants for Stafford. They would definitely be in a pickle at quarterback without him — probably instead going for Aaron Rodgers — but should they have taken the best offer, relieved themselves of the cash owed, and started the train moving on the next edition of QB after Stafford?
