The Seahawks release Noah Fant on Sunday
The Seattle Seahawks released tight end Noah Fant on Sunday, a former first round pick by the Denver Broncos who has had a relatively productive career and is only 27. The Rams made a mistake last year by signing Colby Parkinson, could adding one of his former Seattle teammates to the roster help correct that error?
Seahawks released veteran tight end Noah Fant, the 2019 first-round pick who was acquired in the 2022 trade that sent Russell Wilson to Denver. Over the past three seasons in Seattle, Fant started 42 games and had 130 receptions for 1,400 yards and five touchdowns.

Fant was the 20th overall pick out of Iowa in 2019, going 12 picks after college teammate T.J. Hockenson was selected by the Detroit Lions. Neither was with their original team for as long as those franchises expected them to be.
Although Fant had over 1,900 yards in his first three seasons, the Broncos included him in a trade package to the Seahawks in exchange for quarterback Russell Wilson. After spending two seasons in Seattle, the Seahawks extended Fant to a two-year, $21 million deal in 2024. But despite 48 catches and 500 yards last season, Seattle wasn’t willing to pay his $8.5 million salary in 2025 and apparently no other teams wanted to trade for his contract.
Now that Fant will be much cheaper and a free agent, could he be of any use to an L.A. offense going through a transitional phase at some key offensive skill positions?
Starter Tyler Higbee is 32 (turns 33 on New Year’s Day) and missed almost all of last season until returning just in time for the playoffs. Parkinson looks like one of Les Snead’s biggest free agent blunders and only had 30 catches for 294 yards in the first season of a three-year, $22.5 million deal to leave the Seahawks for the Rams.
The Rams made a move to look into the future of the tight end position by drafting Terrence Ferguson in the second round and over the weekend he signed to his rookie contract.
Rams reached agreement today with second-round pick, TE Terrance Ferguson, on a four-year $9,713,466 contract, including $8,046,753 guaranteed, per his agent @SteveCaric.

L.A. also still has Davis Allen, a fifth round pick in 2023.
Signing Fant would be overkill, but not if the team was considering parting with Parkinson after one season. The Rams would save $3 million by releasing Parkinson, which might not be much more or less than what Fant will get as a free agent.
Fant could potentially be insurance for all three tight ends, including Higbee because he’s six years older, Parkinson because he’s not very good, and Ferguson because he’s a rookie.
Noah Fant hasn’t been the perfect tight end, hence why he was released and unable to be traded, but at a discounted rate he could soon cost the perfect rate.
