Cooper Kupp unsure if he’ll be back with Rams: ‘Who knows what’s going to happen’

January 20, 2025 by Rams Wire

Cooper Kupp has been a fan favorite since he first put together a fantastic rookie season back in 2017. In his eight years with the Los Angeles Rams, he’s won Offensive Player of the Year, Super Bowl MVP, was a triple crown winner and already has the fourth-most receiving yards in franchise history.

But entering the offseason, his future with the organization is up in the air. He became a secondary (and even tertiary) option toward the end of the season and is on the books with a $29.78 million cap hit in 2025 – a huge number for a receiver who will be 32 in June, even one of Kupp’s caliber when healthy.

Add in the reports from October that the Rams were open to moving Kupp at the trade deadline and you get a potential split this offseason.

One day after Los Angeles’ playoff loss to the Eagles, Kupp was asked about his future with the Rams. He’s unsure if he’ll be back in L.A. next season, though he made it clear he would love to be.

Rams WR Cooper Kupp on his future: “Who knows what’s gonna happen? A lot of stuff is out of my control. We’ll see what it’s going to be. … I don’t have any clarity on what that’s gonna look like. Obviously would love to be in LA, but I don’t know what that’s gonna look like.”

In his final five games of the season (including playoffs), Kupp caught a total of 10 passes for 143 yards and no touchdowns. His five-catch, 61-yard performance in the divisional round was his best since Week 14, and it was the only game where he had at least four catches and more than 29 yards since that win over the Bills in December.

He’s dealt with injuries throughout his career and this year was no exception, missing four games with an ankle sprain that he suffered in Week 2. In the last three seasons, he’s played just 32 of a possible 49 games where the starters were on the field, so he’s missed significant time.

There’s no denying his talent when he’s fully healthy but with an expensive contract and declining production entering his age-32 season, it won’t be a surprise if the Rams do move on.

In an ideal situation for the Rams, they’d work something out contract-wise that keeps Kupp in L.A. at a lower price. There’s no guarantee that will happen, but it’s one possibility.
