Breaking: Former Commanders Draft Pick on Trade Block

April 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

kamren curl trade

Former Washington Commander draft pick Kamren Curl will likely be on the trade block. According to a report, one source believes that despite the Los Angeles Rams signing him for cheap last offseason, they could be in the position to trade him. Curl is entering age 26, so there’s the assumption that he still has a lot in the tank to recapture his ability to be effective in destroying the opposing offenses’ aerial attacks. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Arkansas product began his career competing for the starting role against Jeremy Reaves, Cole Luke and Troy Apke.

Curl did put on a phenomenal showcase in his rookie season, recording 66 solo tackles, three interceptions and a touchdown in 16 games. It did pave the way for Washington to make it to their first wild card appearance in years, and Curl got better each season, especially becoming the starter under former head coach Ron Rivera. The safety did well in his final year for the Commanders, but as the team built a new regime last season, Curl didn’t earn another contract under head coach Dan Quinn. It’s still questionable that the Commanders were reluctant to re-sign him after he recorded 74 solo tackles and five pass deflections in 2024.

Since the Rams’ pass defense was one of the worst last season, it might be time to cut ties with Curl, despite him being the full-time starter alongside John Johnson. The Rams could get something as much as a day-three pick for Curl from these two teams.

Breaking: Former Commanders Draft Pick Kamren Curl on Trade Block – Ravens, Chiefs Possible Fits

Help for Ar’Darius Washington

While the Baltimore Ravens are in serious business for having one of the best offenses in the league, the defense needs some work this upcoming season. Last year, the team had one of the worst pass defenses, and former Brandon Stephens and Marcus Williams were solely responsible for making that happen. Veteran Marlon Humphrey did what he could to keep the airfield alive, but it wasn’t sustainable even for someone who’s clearly aging. Even though they’re signing cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, he’s way past his prime and probably won’t earn a starting role in the future.

Meanwhile, guys like Kyle Hamilton and Ar’Darius Washington have done phenomenally to revive the secondary group. Hamilton will be in line for a monster extension, but they could use the backup help either way. Washington is entering a full season to show his capabilities to be consistent, but trading for Curl wouldn’t hurt, as the Ravens may use all the weapons they can get to keep this defense fiery like the offense has been.

Justin Reid’s Replacement?

For the Chiefs, the team might be in a cornerback dilemma soon, similar to what the wide receiver department is undergoing. Jaylen Watson is on the trade block, and if they send him, they could just about any capable secondary piece, no matter if it’s a safety or a cornerback. After losing Justin Reid, the team signed Mike Edwards, so clearly, the Chiefs are trying to find a long-term replacement.

Meanwhile, Curl might not earn a starting spot, but being a part of a championship roster as a backup could boost the team’s chances of having a reliable safety unit without Reid.
