Rams rookie is becoming a Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite
The Los Angeles Rams felt that Braden Fiske was worth two first second round picks and the rookie hasn’t disappointed. With 8 sacks on the season, Fiske leads all rookies and that’s putting him near the top of the conversation for Defensive Rookie of the Year. While teammate Jared Verse still has the best odds in Vegas, Fiske’s two sacks in L.A.’s playoff clinching win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday has to make him a serious contender.
Through 16 games and 650 snaps, Fiske has 8 sacks, 43 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, nine quarterback hits, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 21 pressures.
Fiske’s 7 missed tackles are an area for improvement, but the speedy defensive tackle out of Florida State is on a tear that could make him more than just a critical piece of a talented, young defensive line. Could Fiske be the best of the bunch?
This film study breakdown by Saturday Morning Inspection suggests maybe so:
Fiske may not get another sack. Unless Sean McVay feels that rookies haven’t earned the week off, the Rams will bench players as important as Fiske in the finale against the Seahawks. Between Fiske, Kobie Turner, Verse, and Byron Young, the speed’s the limit with this front-four.
