Bills Could Trade Top Weapon After Shocking Firing

January 20, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

Following the shocking firing of Sean McDermott, the Buffalo Bills could make several moves this upcoming offseason, including trading wide receiver Keon Coleman. According to breaking news, despite changing the organization and turning the Bills into a winning roster, the team has fired McDermott, shocking people within the league with the bombshell. After taking Buffalo to the AFC Championship twice and missing the Super Bowl for almost 10 years, it was enough for the Bills to move in a different direction. While firing McDermott, the team has promoted general manager Brandon Beane to a new role, which has several angry fans, including a Bills player.

With McDermott gone, nobody’s job is safe in Buffalo, and everything could slowly change, no matter who becomes the new head coach for the Bills.

Bills Could Trade Keon Coleman After Shocking Sean McDermott Firing

This means that Coleman could be on his way out. The wide receiver has been rumored to be cut or traded even during the 2025 season. After the Bills hoped to see more in him this season, he took a step back and hasn’t been able to find his footing in this offense. Originally selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product had a chance to revitalize himself. After the team lost Gabe Davis and Tyrell Shavers, it was an opportunity for Coleman to receive more playing time.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t live up to the moment. Coleman dropped a crucial touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Allen, but those are just the few miscues he’s had. Coleman has been benched twice already this past year, so it might be time for the Bills to move on, and these three teams could save his career.

Next Possible Teams

Dallas Cowboys

If anyone could give Coleman a chance, it’s Jerry Jones. The Dallas Cowboys plan to extend George Pickens, but they don’t really have the deepest receiver unit behind him and CeeDee Lamb. Jalen Tolbert took a major step back in 2025 and will head elsewhere during the 2026 offseason. This leaves KaVontae Turpin and Jonathan Mingo as the current slot receivers in this group, but adding an unproven Coleman might be something.

The Cowboys won’t have the financial means to address the WR3 troubles once they extend Pickens, but Coleman’s rookie contract still has two years left, providing flexibility.

Los Angeles Rams

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams are one of the better NFC teams other than the Seahawks. As long as head coach Sean McVay is around, anyone who walks through this team is bound to turn out special. They’ve done this with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams this season, but they could use more receiver help this upcoming offseason. Matthew Stafford still has at least two years left in him, and if he continues to play, the Rams should trade for Coleman to establish him as a promising playmaker.

San Francisco 49ers

The same can be said about head coach Kyle Shanahan. Despite the blowout loss to the Seahawks, the 49ers dealt with too many injuries, but still made it to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. With Jauan Jennings expected to depart for a greater contract, the 49ers will be in search of a new pass-catcher. They have Kendrick Bourne and Ricky Pearsall, but they need to continue to work on establishing more receivers to fit the mold in San Francisco.

They failed to do that in Brandon Aiyuk, but could change it all with what they can get out of Coleman.
