Sean McVay is 33-18 after November in his career
The NFL should have learned not to let Sean McVay get to December with a shot at the playoffs because the Rams head coach comes up with a win almost every time. With their win over the Bills on Sunday, L.A. has now rebounded from a 1-4 start to be 7-6 with four games left. That’s six wins in their last eight games.
With this win, Sean McVay is now 23-11 in December all-time as a head coach.
Is this season on track to eclipse the Rams’ rebound from 3-6 to make the playoffs last year?
Nobody can say whether or not the Rams will end the season as good or better than how they ended 2023 and that’s including L.A.’s 24-23 loss in the wild card round. But are the Rams better than they were at this time last season?
Go back one year and the L.A. Rams were 6-7 after 13 games, coming off of an overtime loss to the Ravens. However, that loss also kind of proved the Rams’ mettle as a force to be reckoned with and McVay helped lead the team to winning their last four games of the season to finish 10-7.
As good as your memory will allow, do you think the Rams are better after 13 games today than they were after 13 games last season?
Here is McVay’s history in December and January:
2017
December: 3-2
January: 0-1
2018
December: 3-2
January: 2-1
2019
December: 3-2
2020
December: 2-2
January: 2-1
2021
December: 4-0
January: 5-1
2022
December: 2-2
January: 0-2
2023
December: 4-1
January: 1-1
2024
December: 2-0
In addition to being 23-11 in December, McVay is 10-7 in January as the Rams head coach. That’s a total of 33-18 for McVay in eight seasons of December and January, which is the exact reason that the biggest mistake the rest of the NFC could make is letting McVay, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Puka Nacua into the playoffs.
As soon as you give McVay a crease of light, he’ll take the whole sun.
