Shake up in the NFC West as the Seahawks fire Ryan Grubb, could Jake Peetz be their next OC?
The Seattle Seahawks fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb on Monday and a replacement name who has long been speculated because he’s already in Seattle’s organization is Jake Peetz. The Seahawks hired Grubb last year after a successful college career at Fresno State and Washington, but no experience in the NFL, and also plucked Peetz off of the L.A. Rams staff as their pass game coordinator.
Peetz had spent just two years working for Sean McVay prior to being hired by first-year Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald in 2024 and Seattle’s passing offense was not nearly as troubled as their rushing offense. So Peetz could be the second former Rams coach to become the Seahawks offensive coordinator in the last few years, as the team had Shane Waldron at the helm for the three seasons prior to Grubb.
Waldron, a former McVay assistant, was then also fired by the Chicago Bears midway through the 2025 season.
Mike Macdonald’s comments last week on Jake Peetz might hint at an in-house promotion

Garrett Nussmeier is going to be a big time QB prospect for 2026. Jake Peetz worked with him for a year… #Seahawks

With Grubb out, the Seahawks could still conduct a search outside of the organization for his replacement and that process could also impact the Rams. There won’t be any shortage of teams interested in McVay’s coaching staff, as there always is.
Among the head coaches we know have been fired on Monday: The Jaguars fired Doug Pederson and the Patriots fired Jerod Mayo.
Look for both Chris Shula and Mike LaFleur to at least be rumored, if not interviewed.
