After destroying the Minnesota Vikings in their first playoff game, the Los Angeles Rams have a tough test ahead of them as they now travel to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.
The Rams were blown out by the Eagles at home in Week 12, so the latter will naturally be feeling confident heading into Sunday’s game. Sean McVay’s team has improved in a number of ways since then though and always seem to be at their best when the chips are stacked against them, which should make for a fun game.
The stakes are already as high as they can be, although two former greats from their respective teams have decided to up the anti a bit. Aaron Donald and LeSean McCoy, two former Pittsburgh Panthers, have placed a $50,000 wager on Sunday’s game:
Considering how the first matchup went between these two teams, it is understandable why McCoy feels so confident that the Eagles are gonna come away with another win.
Donald has been one of the Rams’ biggest supporters this season after retiring though so it is great to see him continuing to believe in his former team despite facing an uphill battle.
The Rams head into the game as six-point underdogs and with snow in the forecast, they may have to battle the elements as well. Donald is certainly never one to shy away from adversity though so hopefully the Rams head into Philadelphia with that same mentality.
Sean McVay discusses Rams’ matchup with Eagles
While the Rams have been playing their best football in recent weeks, head coach Sean McVay knows they are in for a tough test against the Eagles.
“They’re real. Obviously, we have a familiarity,” McVay said. “I got a little bit of a jump on them this morning. This defense is outstanding. Their offense… we know how tough they are to defend in terms of the different things that they can present in the run game and how good they are offensive linewise.
“They have great skill. Obviously [Eagles RB] Saquon [Barkley] is probably going to win Offensive Player of the Year. We have a ton of respect for [Eagles QB] Jalen Hurts. I think [Eagles TE Dallas] Goedert… you look at him making a big play, catching a bubble for a touchdown and stiff-arming guys the other day. They’re in this position for a reason and we’re looking forward to the challenge to go swing though, I’ll promise you that.”
