Veteran impending free agent Robert Woods is ready to return to the Houston Texans for another season in the league. According to reports, Woods desires to re-sign a new deal with the team but it will be up to the organization if they have the same feelings back. Texans General Manager Nick Caserio already said he wants star wideout Stefon Diggs but there has yet to be on what this means for Woods’ future. Originally selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the former USC product made his NFL season debut with the Buffalo Bills serving primarily as a starting wideout building a tandem with Sammy Watkins until the two parted ways and joined Sean McVay with the Rams in 2016.
He was a viable receiver for the McVay era until 2021 when he tore his ACL and hasn’t been the same player he once was. Woods became a journeyman since then and joined the Titans in a trade but later joined the Texans in 2023. The veteran was more of a depth fill behind Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell while falling out of the chart but still a capable weapon to grab the balls when he got the chance. It’s fair to say Woods won’t earn a starting role again but be more of a rotational receiver if anyone desires any consistency in their passing game.

Next Possible Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers need just about any wide receiver to help Ladd McConkey in the aerial attack. The team doesn’t have a ton of experience for quarterback Justin Herbert in the postseason. Robert Woods might be slowing down but he knows what it takes to go to the Super Bowl and is a significant upgrade over Quentin Johnston.
Los Angeles Rams
Since the Rams are putting Cooper Kupp on the trade block, the team will be in the market to find another capable weapon to pair with Puka Nacua. While they do that, they should find a veteran to help salvage the unit since the team will likely test the waters in this year’s NFL Draft by finding their next pass-catcher. Woods has what the Rams are looking for and his last tenure with them was a success despite his brutal injury. The veteran probably won’t earn the WR2 role but he’s going to be efficient no matter who the next quarterback will be for the franchise.
Baltimore Ravens
Nelson Agholor will likely sign a one-year deal with a new team if the Ravens don’t re-sign him back already. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are still Lamar Jackson’s two fine options in the passing attack but they lack depth behind them. Woods is not going to beat out Bateman or Flowers, but he’s a dependable security veteran blanket to come in situational plays.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are on a budget so they can’t get the best wide receiver available in the market. This means they need a capable third man for whoever the next quarterback will be to succeed in Kellen Moore’s offense. Woods could be a dependable option to help Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
Carolina Panthers
As for the Panthers, the team is getting younger and quarterback Bryce Young is finally showing signs of life. The same can be said for two young promising wide receivers Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker. However, if they want a shot to earn a spot in the wild card, the team should sign Woods for the experience to give the pass offense a chemistry boost.
