Star cornerback Jaire Alexander with an uncertain future might wind up on the trade block this upcoming offseason. According to several reports, the cornerback gave reporters the cold shoulder on his future with the Green Bay Packers which may mean he may want to move on. After suffering a season-ending injury, it’s clear he might need a new scenery to adjust into since he wasn’t able to speak to the media in a clear responsive way where it indicates he wants to be with the Packers. Originally selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the veteran came into the league with a lot of promise hoping to carve out a long-term role in Green Bay but injuries have stopped his progression this season.
Since signing his new deal in 2021, Alexander has missed at least 21 games the past two seasons so it’s no wonder why the Packers could entertain a trade this offseason. He was the subject of those rumors this past 2024 campaign and while he’s still under contract until 2026, the Packers might not want to wait until then. In 2024, he put up 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and seven passes defenses. Alexander might not be the same elite player coming out of Louisville but with the right roster, he could return to produce some type of capabilities to being a reliable ball-hawk.

Next Possible Teams
Kansas City Chiefs
While the Kansas City Chiefs are still alive in the playoffs, they might have to think about the longevity of their secondary unit. Trent McDuffie has done phenomenally well to be the potential successor after the L’Jarius Sneed trade. However, they lost Jaylen Watson and attempted to salvage the unit and signed Steven Nelson to a contract. While McDuffie is the future, Joshua Williams still has his issues of inconsistency.
Any depth could be useful and a guy coming in like Alexander even on a one-year basis could bring the secondary back to life again.
Los Angeles Chargers
The pass defense has been aggressive this entire season under incoming head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Nobody loves winning in the trenches more than Harbaugh but it seems like it was the opposite. Kristian Fulton will become a free agent along with Tony Jefferson so they need some type of replacement to help boost the entire secondary unit. Alexander could be the perfect man in this situation since the Chargers need to prove next season they could make a deep playoff run and they could use that assist from him.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens will have one of the most explosive offenses as long as quarterback Lamar Jackson is on the roster. However, the team’s defense has yet to replicate that same success since cornerbacks like Brandon Stephens have their struggles. This leaves rookie Nate Wiggins to pick up the slack but it’s unusual for a rookie to take on that much workload. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if this bites them in the end but someone like Alexander could provide veteran insurance the Ravens are looking for.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints cannot deny the fact they should probably rebuild since they’re looking for a new head coach. With Derek Carr possibly returning, there are more questions than answers about the landscape of the defense. Several uncertain futures like Tyrann Mathieu and Demario Davis are left in the air. After trading Marshon Lattimore and potentially losing Paulson Adebo, they have to embrace looking into the market for a new cornerback.
While they could focus on the draft, they need answers now at the position since they are getting younger. Alexander might be a high-risk investment but it’s worth it since he might not demand a big contract considering the plague of injuries he’s bringing.
