Superstar playmaker Davante Adams is likely to be a cap-casualty for the New York Jets but he could sign with the Chargers, Chiefs as his possible next teams. According to multiple reports, the Jets probably have made up their mind regarding Adams and several veterans this upcoming offseason after a disastrous 2024 campaign. The postseason is around the corner so the majority of the teams in the league will not compete beyond Week 18, including the Jets. It’s hard to imagine New York would keep Adams around considering they’re already making plans to release veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Originally selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, the former second-rounder was hoping to rejuvenate his career with the Jets by reuniting with Rodgers to get some chemistry going. Things didn’t pan out for the six-time Pro Bowler as the team doesn’t have a winning culture in place that will get the Jets in the postseason. Adams has a unique contract that allows him to have full control, including requesting a trade or release in time for Free Agency in March. However, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they release Adams as soon as that time comes around.
Adams hasn’t been the most lucky of finding a roster with a winning roster but next season could be his time to find a new team that is a legitimate playoff contender. He will count for $38 million against the salary cap for the Jets the next two seasons so this is something the team must consider. If they release him, it will only account for $8.4 million. Adams may be better suited with the Chargers, Chiefs as his next teams.

Lightning in a Bottle
The Los Angeles Chargers are heading to their first postseason since 2018 with a lot of future bright spots on their team. Justin Herbert is thriving driving the ball in the aerial attack after having a few issues early in the season. However, Jim Harbaugh has made the run game the focal point of the offense where the team made minimal changes to the passing to help Herbert. Even though rookie Ladd McConkey is constructing himself as a reliable playmaker, it hasn’t been helpful for guys like second-year Quentin Johnston to be underperforming again.
Joshua Palmer will become a free agent in March, so this means the Chargers could look for a star wide receiver if they exit the upcoming postseason early. DJ Chark is nothing more than a journeyman so they brought in Jalen Reagor to bring some stability and consistency in the passing game. Herbert has been using every receiver on the depth chart, so maybe adding someone like Adams could give them more longevity. McConkey could use the veteran presence of Adams as they could be potentially a formidable duo.
New Speedster in Kansas City?
Meanwhile, the Chiefs haven’t been the same team ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as quarterback. With missing Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice for the majority of the 2024 campaign, the team has been reliant on the defense to give them more opportunities. After still going 15-1, the Chiefs will possibly lose Brown this upcoming free agency and several potential weapons like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Justin Watson in the backend of the depth chart. There’s a fair chance they may extend DeAndre Hopkins for a couple more years after trading for him, but they might be better off establishing younger talent to surround Rice and rookie Xavier Worthy.
Davante Adams is aging like Hopkins so they may pair the two for at least one year next season to give possibly an explosive offense. However, several things have to happen to make his contract fit. They may not have to worry about wide receiver issues for a long time if they can get Hopkins, Adams, Rice and Worthy all on the same team which sounds like a nightmare to the rest of the league.
