Star wideout Deebo Samuel frustration this season could lead to a Ravens, Chargers trade in March. According to multiple reports, the San Francisco 49ers got an earful from Samuel despite their obliterating win over the Chicago Bears this past Sunday. Samuel went on Twitter to air his anger, stating “Not struggling at all. Just not getting the ball.” A big win for the 49ers did not mean a good day for Samuel which could cause some implications in time for his contract extension this upcoming offseason.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Pro Bowler’s production has steadily declined in the past two years after suffering several injuries, hampering his abilities to be the same superstar. However, his numbers were off last season after recording 892 receiving yards on 60 receptions. Samuel is no stranger to taking his frustrations to social media and he doesn’t hold back on what he says. This type of behavior may lead him to request a trade this upcoming offseason if he isn’t the main star on the roster even though John Lynch wants him to return.
It may be difficult considering they have Brock Purdy’s contract to worry about which would make things unease for the 49ers offseason. After losing Brandon Aiyuk to an injury this year, the emergence of Jauan Jennings is likely ticking off Samuel since he’s been making the most of his targets. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan isn’t a fan of his antics so all of this could affect his long-term future in San Francisco.
Star Wideout Deebo Samuel Frustration Could Lead to Ravens, Chargers Trade
Helping Lamar Jackson
The Baltimore Ravens had one of the best offenses coming into the regular season after signing Derrick Henry to improve the ground game which has been a momentum booster. After extending Rashod Bateman, he hasn’t been as consistent as Zay Flowers and they hoped trading for Diontae Johnson would help improve the passing attack since they didn’t find a replacement after Odell Beckham’s departure. The Ravens haven’t found their rhythm as Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews have been carrying the backend of the workload to make up for struggles on Agholor and Johnson.
Chances are, the Ravens are going to look for a new wide receiver this upcoming offseason. Flowers is MVP level but Jackson needs another star to give him some legitimate talent to finally win a Super Bowl. While Agholor has his moments, he’s nothing more but a rotational player that should only be used in situational moments. Baltimore signing Deebo Samuel could provide much-needed stability and speed that could replicate what Flowers’ performance is all about.
Revitalizing Los Angeles
Justin Herbert is one of the greatest quarterbacks in this era despite the lack of talent at the receiving position he has. Jim Harbaugh has no plans to replace Herbert as their leader so he should add more star power in the passing game to help Herbert’s vision. As much as he loves the running game, he needs to have that same desire for the passing attack. After losing to Baltimore and Kansas City in the regular season, the Chargers can’t be reliant on the run when attempting to dethrone them in the postseason.
Los Angeles may be a dark horse team this upcoming playoffs but they’re easily a first-round exit. Ladd McConkey is constructing himself as a full-time starter despite his injury, but Quentin Johnson might be falling down the depth chart. They should sign Deebo Samuel which would give the Chargers offense immediate life in the passing game, especially considering if they don’t have no plans to re-sign Joshua Palmer in free agency next offseason.
