REPORT: Seahawks Revising Contract Could Signal Massive Trade – 5 Possible Suitors

March 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

uchenna nwosu revising contract

The Seattle Seahawks are revising the contract for Uchenna Nwosu which may trigger a trade if he doesn’t improve. According to reports, the edge defender agrees to a new deal to stay with the team which saves the roster cap space. Despite the contract restructuring, Nwosu is likely on the hot seat as he hasn’t been able to stay on the field due to injuries so his future with the Seahawks could be uncertain. The team is already building a new regime under head coach Mike Macdonald after trading DK Metcalf, Geno Smith and releasing Tyler Lockett so it shouldn’t come as surprising if the Seahawks part ways with Nwosu.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former USC product began as a backup for the Los Angeles Chargers behind veteran Kyle Emanuel. Nwosu didn’t have plenty of starts during his tenure with the Chargers until he signed a two-year deal Seahawks in 2022, recording career highs in both total tackles and sacks. In 2023, he got a new contract extension during the Pete Carroll Era but since he hasn’t been able to stay on the field, Macdonald may wind up putting him on the trade if he doesn’t improve. The Seahawks are no stranger to trading one of their veterans he could be the next one out the door and these five teams could welcome him.

REPORT: Seahawks Revising Contract for Uchenna Nwosu Could Signal Massive Trade – 5 Possible Suitors

Potential Trade Candidates

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are in dire need of a new edge rusher if they want to move further in the postseason next year. After releasing Joey Bosa, it leaves veteran Khalil Mack remaining on the team for what could be his final year before he retires. Uchenna Nwosu is familiar with the organization but perhaps since Jim Harbaugh has taken over, he could have a better stint than the last one.

Baltimore Ravens

Just like the Chargers, the Baltimore Ravens could use another linebacker in their trenches. Trenton Simpson has been a disappointment last year after having large shoes to fill for Jadeveon Clowney since departing for the Carolina Panthers. Nwosu might be a high-risk investment for the team but the Ravens could rework his contract if the team trades for him to fit into their budget. He won’t light up the field but he’s a significant upgrade over Simpson.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints lost Willie Gay so that leaves a massive hole in the team’s linebacker unit. Demario Davis is returning on a revised contract but as he’s aging, he won’t be in the league much longer. Pete Werner and Jaylan Ford have bright futures but both are unproven to win in the big moment. Nwosu might not have the postseason experience but his veteran status shows he could be a leader in this locker room.

Washington Commanders

For the Washington Commanders, the pass-rushing unit is getting older and to no surprise, they are signing any capable veteran to maximize Jayden Daniels’ rookie contract. There’s still some work to be done for this pass rush and losing Dante Fowler Jr. back to the Cowboys could be a costly mistake. The Commanders could easily make up for it by trading for Nwosu to give Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner some relief down the stretch.

Carolina Panthers

Despite signing Jadeveon Clowney last offseason, there have been rumors the team could trade him. Josey Jewell is somewhat of a reliable linebacker but nothing special to get more than five sacks. Meanwhile, Nwosu landing with the Panthers would checkmark all the boxes to give this defense a capable edge rusher.
