REPORT: Seahawks May Still Trade Former Second Rounder After NFL Draft

May 2, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

seahawks trade kenneth walker

The Seattle Seahawks will likely trade former second-round pick Kenneth Walker after the NFL Draft. According to several sources, the team could look to trade the running back after making a few moves in their backfield room during the draft. The Seahawks have a lot of depth and will probably have Zach Charbonnet start at the beginning of the 2025 regular season. It makes sense why considering the team drafted two running backs in the seventh round this year.

After acquiring guys like Damien Martinez in this year’s draft and Kenny McIntosh from two years ago, they have a lot of moving pieces in the running room. Walker’s future isn’t clear anymore in Seattle, as the running back got a legitimate chance despite the Rashaad Penny retirement, and Walker couldn’t take advantage. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Wake Forest and Michigan State product had one of the worst 2024 campaigns in the league, dealing with an injury that was causing a lot of disruption to his production. The veteran running back isn’t durable anymore since he isn’t able to stay healthy after suffering an ankle injury that ended his season last year.

Under head coach Mike Macdonald, the Seahawks are building a new regime, and it’s obvious that Walker would be on the chopping block either way. Sam Darnold and Sam Howell are the new captains steering the offensive ship, while it makes sense that Charbonnet has more of a legitimate chance to be their new starter. Walker might not garner much interest, but these three teams could take a chance on him.

Next Possible Teams

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of depth themselves this upcoming 2025 season, even though they could use another running back. However, Isiah Pacheco’s job is on the line, and with the team bringing back veteran Kareem Hunt for at least one more year, the Chiefs could look for more sustainable backfield pieces to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After drafting Brashard Smith, he isn’t going to see the field unless he impresses the scouts enough for a potential No. 3 spot, but they have free agent signing Elijah Mitchell in that position.

Walker would come off as cheap and provide a lot of stability for the Chiefs. It’s never a bad time for the team to consider more guys to run the ball since they already have some type of questionable pass catchers on the roster. It won’t hurt to trade for Walker at the right price, and the Chiefs should be on top of the list in their situation.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens will eventually need a long-term running back behind star veteran Derrick Henry. Even though there’s a lot of hope that Keaton Mitchell is the rising talent, there’s no guarantee that he can fortify the backfield behind him. Perhaps, the team could trade for Walker if Mitchell is serious about giving Henry relief for the majority of the 2025 season to keep him fresh for the postseason.

Los Angeles Chargers

It’s an interesting dilemma forming in Los Angeles. The Chargers signed Najee Harris in free agency after letting J.K. Dobbins walk and cut Gus Edwards. After drafting running back Omarion Hampton, it seems like the team isn’t sold on Harris for their long-term future. Since the team will likely let these runners battle it out at camp, they could include Walker in the mix even if he doesn’t get the starting job, while Hampton will most likely still develop.
