The Miami Dolphins are in dire need of a defensive lineman and they want free agent Calais Campbell to return to the team this offseason. According to a report, the Dolphins want Campbell while the team hasn’t made any significant changes to their defensive line. This means they “really want” the future Hall of Famer back for what could be his last season in the league. However, the Dolphins were open to letting Campbell join another team last year if Miami didn’t make the playoffs but it didn’t happen that way.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the former Miami product is one of the league’s oldest defensive linemen. Through 17 years of play, he put up 110.5 sacks, 917 tackles, six Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro. Campbell has been a fan favorite on every team he has ever gone to but the veteran will have options and at this stage of his career, it might be safe to sign with a team that’s a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Last season, he’s already been proving to other teams he still has at least one more season in him so it shouldn’t be surprising if he decides to sign elsewhere since he’s not getting any younger. Campbell might not be in his prime anymore but the veteran could have one last chance with these five teams.

Potential Destinations
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are not too far from becoming Super Bowl champions one day as they missed the AFC Championship Game since facing off the Chiefs in 2024. However, the team had to sustain a different look on defense after losing veteran Jadeveon Clowney in the trenches. Nnamdi Madubuike is still playing at a high level and if the Ravens want to continue seeing that from him, they need more experience on that defensive line. Campbell might have slowed down but he’s a significant upgrade over Travis Jones and Broderick Washington.
Los Angeles Chargers
Last year, the Chargers made promising strides in making it to the wild card in head coach Jim Harbaugh’s first year back in the NFL. It’s time for the team to turn the page and heat up its defensive trenches and they haven’t made many changes. Teair Tart is coming back on another one-year deal but losing Poona Ford could come as a loss for the Chargers. The team will probably need a veteran like Campbell to see the best out of Tart again and keep the entire unit intact
Dallas Cowboys
Surprisingly, the Cowboys don’t look too shabby with the bargain moves they made this offseason. Jack Sanborn, Dante Fowler Jr. and Osa Odighizuwa returning will be crucial for the success of this pass rush. However, they could use the presence of Campbell as a rotational man as long as the Cowboys give Micah Parsons a contract extension soon.
Kansas City Chiefs
For the Chiefs, George Karlaftis has yet to be special in this unit while he does have his moments, he needs additional help up front. Defensive Tackle Chris Jones is one of the league’s best defensive linemen but if they want to see more firepower, they need more depth. Campbell could sign a one-year with Kansas City to finally get his ring in the Patrick Mahomes era.
Washington Commanders
If anyone in this league is in the best position. it’s the Washington Commanders. Despite losing Fowler, the team got a lot of talent on the defensive upfront after signing Javon Kinlaw and a few depth guys. However, they could use Campbell as a crown jewel piece to guide them to their first Super Bowl in more than a decade.
