REPORT: Could Rams Trade Former Seventh-Round Bust? 3 Logical Fits

July 8, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After an unproductive 2024 campaign, the Los Angeles Rams may trade safety Kam Curl before the trade deadline this year. According to Isaac Zuniga of Heavy Sports, he believes the Rams have a chance of parting ways with the safety, especially when they could put him on the trade block as he will enter the last year of his contract. The Los Angeles Rams might find themselves rebuilding a new roster in the next few years. After trading out of the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, this could be a sign that the Rams are more about getting draft compensation rather than keeping most of their veteran talent.

Despite re-signing quarterback Matthew Stafford to an extension, it didn’t stop the Rams from parting ways with Cooper Kupp since they failed to find a trade suitor. With that, it wouldn’t be too of a shock if Curl winds up on a new team in a possible trade scenario. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Arkansas product came off his best season with the Washington Commanders in 2023, recording 115 tackles, where he was one of the top safeties in the league. It was no surprise that the Rams got him in the following offseason for a two-year deal, but he couldn’t live up to expectations in Los Angeles.

There’s still a chance that Curl might stay due to depth, but since Quentin Lake might be a cheaper option, the Rams may consider trading Curl to these three teams.

Potential Destinations

Kansas City Chiefs

After losing Justin Reid this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t do much to find a reliable replacement. While they did sign Mike Edwards for depth, it might not be enough for the Chiefs to be successful in the safety unit. They did lose L’Jarius Sneed the prior offseason, but Trent McDuffie was able to fill in the shoes without the team investing in another cornerback until they got Kristian Fulton this offseason. The Chiefs could do the same thing in this scenario to give not only Bryan Cook but Jaden Hicks the best spot to be three-set elite playmakers to disrupt the aerial attack.

The team must play it on the safe side, and no one could arguably do it better than Kansas City to probably bring out the best in Curl.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers’ secondary department will look dramatically different this upcoming 2025 campaign. After signing Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste to salvage the unit, the Chargers are possibly building themselves a ferocious pass secondary attack. Curl could fire up the fuel with already capable Derwin James and Alohi Gilman by getting in the mix to help this Chargers secondary.

Carolina Panthers

After back-to-back seasons of building an offense for the Carolina Panthers, the team has been improving the defensive trenches and secondary after years of mediocrity. Despite signing Trevon Moehrig, the Panthers could use another talent to potentially replicate the spectacular performance he had in Las Vegas. Curl might be coming off past his prime, but he could fit the role as a starter in Carolina.
