Could the San Francisco 49ers have the Bosa brothers leading their defensive line next season? Apparently, it’s not off the table for John Lynch and the front office.
According to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers are interested in adding Joey Bosa to their roster this offseason. However, it’d have to be at the “right price.”
That means San Francisco could wait for Los Angeles to potentially cut Bosa. Another option is a trade where he agrees to a reworked contract.
“The 49ers are still hunting for value acquisitions in free agency, especially in the defensive backfield. Joey Bosa, if released by the Chargers (or if trade & contract terms were favorable), remains enticing at the right price,” Silver said.
Joey Bosa has two years remaining on his contract with the Chargers. His cap hit for the 2024 season is a whopping $36 million.
Parting ways with Bosa would open up a ton of cap space for the Chargers. It would also leave them with a huge void to fill at defensive end. Since entering the league in 2016, he has racked up 321 tackles and 67 sacks.
As for the 49ers, it makes sense for them to pursue Joey Bosa. Pairing him up with Nick would create a lethal combination for Kyle Shanahan’s defense.
Even if the 49ers fail to land Joey Bosa, they’ve done a decent job building their defensive line in free agency, agreeing to deals with Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. They also traded for Maliek Collins.
