The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner for the Los Angeles Chargers… and the other 31 NFL teams. The difference for the Chargers is that they are quite difficult to mock as their roster is set up in a way to take the best player available at nearly every position.
This philosophy is exactly what the Baltimore Ravens are known for and why they have been so successful over the last few decades. With General Manager Joe Hortiz coming from that building, the Chargers have and will continue to adopt this philosophy, and that is exactly why the 2025 NFL Draft for the Chargers is a bit of a confusing one.
That said, to narrow down the prospects that the Chargers should look into drafting, I have compiled a few favorite realistic fits for the Chargers in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Realistic Chargers Selections For The First 3 Rounds Of The 2025 NFL Draft
Round 1, Elite Draft Prospects: Colston Loveland, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Kenneth Grant
Starting with Michigan tight end Colston Loveland as a realistic Chargers draft prospect, he would bring major juice to this Chargers passing game that no other player on this roster can outside of last year’s rookie, Ladd McConkey. If he can control the middle of the field and take pressure off McConkey in year one, that would be an absolute victory for the Chargers in round one. He would easily mesh on this team as he knows Head Coach Jim Harbaugh from his Michigan days.
Donovan Ezeiruaku has been a major riser up draft boards over the last few months, as he went from day two prospect to a top-20 player in the class. With his length, speed and pass rush ability he would fill the niche role the Chargers desperately need filled. If he falls to 22, the Chargers should sprint the card up to the podium and select the Boston College EDGE rusher.
Going back to the Michigan well, using familiarity and positional need as reasonings for drafting an elite prospect, Kenneth Grant is an easy choice for the Chargers in the 2025 NFL Draft. As a complete space eater as a nose tackle who has the athletic tools to play at 3-tech, Grant possesses unreal size and traits to become an elite interior defender for this Chargers defense.
Round 2, Picking Up Dropped Dollars: Jayden Higgins, Bradyn Swinson, Elijah Arroyo
Moving forward to round 2, the Chargers will obviously need to plan their day two selections around who they selected on day one.
However, the best player available could very well be Iowa State Receiver, Jayden Higgins. With immense size and speed Higgins also possesses great ability to catch the football and separate from defensive backs. If the Chargers were to draft defense in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Higgins would be the perfect pairing in round two with McConkey to help bolster this weak Chargers offense.
Bradyn Swinson out of LSU is getting first-round hype and very well could be past the point of being available in round two. However, this hype is so late in the draft process it could very well be agent-speak and his actual value will be somewhere in between the first and third round. That said, the Chargers desperately need more youth at the EDGE position. Swinson would easily bring youth, athletic ability and day-one contributing strengths.
Wrapping up with Elijah Arroyo, Tight End out of Miami; he would bring the exact skillset the Chargers are looking for at Tight End. A receiver who shows “want to” as a blocker who can very well develop those skills to become a true starting Tight End. Year one for Arroyo would likely be a developing year where he can showcase his strengths and work on his weaknesses. Imagine a supersized Stone Smartt. A perfect fit for the Chargers in round 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Round 3, Athletic Traits To Develop: Tre Harris, Joshua Farmer, Damien Martinez
Round 3 will likely have to follow the dominos of rounds 1 and 2, but should introduce less premium positions like running back for the Bolts.
Tre Harris is an athletic Wide Receiver prospect out of Ole Miss, who can stretch the field vertically and become a very strong contest catcher of the football for Justin Herbert. Harris has the ability to play the “X” role for the Chargers, which would complement McConkey in the slot. If Harris can hit his ceiling with the Chargers and refine his route running, he very well could be a #1 option in the future.
Joshua Farmer is a lengthy Defensive Tackle prospect out of Florida State, and could very well help the Chargers from day one. His arm length of 35″ was the best out of all Defensive Tackles at the 2025 NFL Combine. His presence alongside Teair Tart and Naquan Jones will turn the weakness of the interior defensive line to one that can be developed into a real contributing position group for this Jesse Minter-led defense.
Damien Martinez out of Miami is cut from the same cloth as current starting running back, Najee Harris. As a bruiser in the backfield who can take a major workload, Martinez could be a round 3 steal in the 2025 NFL Draft. Just imagine two bruisers in a Jim Harbaugh-led offense. A rushing attack that can wear defenses down and can take time off the clock for the Chargers to win in the ultimate “Harbaugh fashion”
