The Ravens, Chiefs may pursue Chargers free agent running back target, Leonard Fournette this season. According to a few reports, some sources are urging the Los Angeles Chargers to sign Fournette to help bolster the backfield position after losing J.K. Dobbins to injury. Dobbins had a strong upside this year but injuries continue to hamper his starting ability in the league after his release from the Ravens this past offseason. It will likely force the Chargers to scramble for a new running back in the free-agent market as they still look like a competitive wild-card team.
Gus Edwards is returning from an injury so it shouldn’t be too long before the Chargers do sign one. Fournette might not have any gas in his tank but he could be an efficient option for the team as the roster is gearing up for a postseason run. Originally selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, the veteran never made an impression in Buffalo last season after his release from the team that is now depending on James Cook. The Bills didn’t look back but Fournette could have many years left on his resume to show for to prove he still has a lot of speed to offer for a roster.
After helping Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in 2020 to win a Super Bowl, Fournette is better than most available running backs when healthy. He won’t drastically change the entire ground game but he’s a viable option to move the chains. This is why the Chargers have to act fast or other AFC contenders like Ravens, Chiefs will look to sign him to remain competitive this upcoming postseason.

Trouble in Baltimore?
The Baltimore Ravens have lost a brutal matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles after having the momentum in their position since losing many winnable games. However, the running game was looking like it was falling apart and there was miscommunication happening. Lamar Jackson didn’t run the ball much like many were hoping which could spell trouble for those anticipating it. After a few brutal defensive performances, the Eagles finally figured out how to stop the Ravens offense which isn’t good news for a team that wants to be a competitive AFC team.
However, Derrick Henry is still one of the best in his game and one bad matchup doesn’t define. Despite that, they should consider signing Leonard Fournette to ignite some fire for the running game behind Henry while Justice Hill is taking care of the dump-offs. No one should expect Keaton Mitchell to be a full-time starter since he’s still coming off his injury and going through growing pains. A Fournette signing wouldn’t hurt what they have going on but have an extra emphasis on running the football while they figure out the passing game miscues they’re dealing with.
Finding the Spark
Meanwhile, the Chiefs haven’t been able to find themselves in a powerful momentum shifter despite going 11-1. Patrick Mahomes didn’t look happy with his performance against the Raiders which isn’t good news for the offense that had a lot of promising going into the year. They’ve had to make several changes, trading for DeAndre Hopkins to replace Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown. However, they haven’t found their next consistent receiver to help the offense move the chains.
Isiah Pacheco returned to the lineup to share the snaps with Kareem Hunt but they may need some extra experience moving forward. This duo has chemistry but it might not be enough considering Hunt has been dwindling each week since taking over stomping ground in Pacheco’s absence. Fournette might not be the Super Bowl runner that everyone remembers anymore but he has that veteran spark that could give the Chiefs something to work with while they don’t want to risk Pacheco becoming a full-time starter too soon.
