Ravens, Chargers Could Intervene in Seahawks Free Agent Visit

April 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

seahawks shaquill griffin visit

The Seattle Seahawks are hosting cornerback Shaquill Griffin for a visit this week, and the two parties could reunite this offseason. According to reports, Griffin is visiting the team, who may reunite for the first time in his career as he’s one of the best available cornerbacks in the market. Originally selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former UCF product was hoping to establish himself as a capable secondary piece, sitting on the reserve behind Jeremy Lane and Richard Sherman. Griffin got an opportunity to start for the Seahawks after benching Lane and became the top corner for the team until 2020.

In that time frame, he put up 249 tackles and six interceptions but hasn’t been the same player that was on the Seahawks. Griffin became more of a journeyman, departing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but things didn’t pan out as the cornerback couldn’t stay healthy in season two of his three-year deal. After spending some time with the Houston Texans and the Carolina Panthers, Griffin finally found some life with the Vikings, notching a few crucial interceptions and participating in every game in last season’s campaign.

It’s no surprise the Seahawks are trying to bring him back, but at least some other teams could pursue him. Griffin might not be the same player he once was, but it seems like he has a lot of gas in the tank to show for the upcoming seasons wherever he lands, and he might be better off signing with these two teams.

Marlon Humphrey’s Replacement?

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens’ secondary was one of the worst for the majority of the 2024 campaign. This led head coach John Harbaugh to bench Marcus Williams in favor of Ar’Darius Washington. It did pay off, but things didn’t get better for Brandon Stephens, who is now on a new team after signing quickly in a surprise. Even though the Ravens did sign cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, they still need a potential capable replacement to back up 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins.

There have been rumors swirling that veteran Marlon Humphrey could be on the trade block this offseason, especially taking a pay cut to reduce the salary cap for the Ravens. Just because he did that, it doesn’t mean his starting job is safe, as the team is getting younger each season. Griffin won’t need to start full-time, but maybe his presence could help reduce the stress for Humphrey in the air attack.

More Help in Aerial Attack

As for the Los Angeles Chargers, they may have lost Kristian Fulton to the Kansas City Chiefs, but they made up for it by signing Donte Jackson. While he’s a starter, the same can’t be said about rookie Cam Hart, who will likely start in his first regular season week one matchup. The Chargers shouldn’t rush for that to happen.

Hart is still learning the game, and while they did sign Benjamin St-Juste, there’s no such thing as too many cornerbacks in the league. Perhaps, Griffin could be an efficient rotational upgrade for the Chargers.
