Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Safety Kyle Hamilton will likely receive a massive contract extension this upcoming offseason that could reshape the landscape of the league. According to reports, one analyst believes Hamilton could get a three-year deal that comes out to $75 million after Antoine Winfield Jr. is the latest safety to set the market last offseason with the Buccaneers. However, this all could spell the end of the second-round bust of Marcus Williams after having a disappointing 2024 campaign. Williams came into the season as the starter but after several miscues, he slowly began to fade away in the depth chart of the secondary unit with the emergence of Ar’Darius Washington.
The Ravens had one of the worst secondary starts in a long time but head coach John Harbaugh adjusted elevating Washington as the starter. Washington took advantage of this opportunity and since Williams agreed to a contract restructure, this means the team could use the tactic of designating him as a post-June 1 release. It might not free much cap space at $2.6 million but it’s something to consider for the Ravens who have no idea how he could fit into this lineup anymore. Since Baltimore probably doesn’t see Williams in their plans, the idea of giving Hamilton a long-term deal puts the icing on the cake for Williams’ future.

Next Possible Teams
New Orleans Saints
It’s hard to imagine what type of moves the New Orleans Saints will make in the offseason considering their financial situation. However, general manager Mickey Loomis always finds a way to get some free agents at a bargain like with Chase Young last offseason. Despite that, the Saints will need to get more than creative so they’re capable of improving their defensive roster. Since Tyrann Mathieu is likely a cut candidate this upcoming free agency, they could easily use the money to reunite with Marcus Williams who spent the first few seasons with the team before leaving.
He might not have much of an impact on what Mathieu has done for the organization. However, Williams could keep this secondary unit competitive considering they may also lose Paulson Adebo after already losing Marshon Lattimore last year.
Los Angeles Chargers
As much as head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win in the trenches, the secondary unit doesn’t look promising next season for the Chargers if they don’t do much to retain some of their key defenders. Kristian Fulton is a free agent but he isn’t the only one they must bring back. It’s best to part ways with Marcus Maye while looking for a significant upgrade over Tony Jefferson. Marcus Williams may not be a starter anymore but he could easily become a rotational backup for a team that needs secondary depth to help Alohi Gilman coming off his injury.
Carolina Panthers
Jaycee Horn had an excelling season after finally staying healthy and Mike Jackson has a bright future considering the success he had last campaign. However, no one should expect these two to carry most of the weight of this defense. Carolina spent the majority of figuring out their offense but they must finally add some defensive firepower. With Xavier Woods set to become a free agent, it makes sense for the Panthers to add Williams as an upgrade.
