It looks like the Minnesota Vikings will be getting a new running back after Alexander Mattison’s disappointing performance in Week 2.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Vikings are acquiring running back Cam Akers from the Los Angeles Rams in a swap of draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Akers has just 29 rushing yards and one touchdown on 22 carries this season. But he has shown flashes of brilliance through his career, such as his rookie season, the 2021 playoffs and even last year.
Akers will likely take over as starting running back for Alexander Mattison if Mattison continues to struggle but will likely serve as a third-down or goaline back for the time being.

The Minnesota Vikings are 0-2 and face a must-win game against the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend.
A loss to the Chargers would put them at 0-3 on the year and likely spell the end of any realistic shot at the playoffs barring something historic in the final 14 games.
Will Cam Akers help the Vikings get their win over the Chargers this Sunday?
