The Raiders’ new head coach will make the AFC West the winningest division in NFL history.
Yes, you’re not imagining that headline.
The Raiders are officially hiring former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll to lead their team into a new era. Apparently the influence of minority owner Tom Brady and new general John Spytek was just too much for the 73-year old as he comes out of retirement to coach in what should be the most competitive division in the NFL — maybe even in the history of the league.
All four head coaches — Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, and Carroll — have been to a Super Bowl with three of them actually winning it all. Combined, they have five Super Bowl victories and two college national championships. They’re also the winningest group of head coaches in history with a 669-396 overall regular season record.

Just like their days of coaching in the NFC West, Carroll and Harbaugh will now once again square off twice a season in the AFC West. These four behemoths in the game of football will most certainly make this division a magnet for coverage in the coming season, meaning there’s probably a good chance the division lands on the next season of Hard Knocks, like the AFC North did during the 2024 campaign.
