The 2025 NFL season is officially here, and the Chargers open the season against the Chiefs in Brazil.
The Chargers are looking to build off the 2024 campaign and make a deeper playoff run under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Here are the three main keys for the Chargers against Kansas City.
1) Run Game
Chargers Offensive coach Greg Roman wants the offense to establish the run game against a very tough Chiefs team. Last year, the Chargers were ranked 10th in the NFL in EPA per rush (0.220) according to Pro Football Focus.
The Chargers were also ranked 27th in rushing rate success(63.7 percent). The team added Najee Harris this offseason, and also drafted Omarion Hampton in round 1 of the 2025 NFL draft.
2) Cornerback??
With a group that includes James, Elijah Molden, and Alohi Gilman, the Chargers’ cornerback position is the best in the AFC West. Last year, the Chargers’ defense held Kansas City to fewer than 20 points in both games. Mahomes threw fewer than 300 yards last season in both games against the Chargers.
Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter:
“We just have to play our game, we have to find a way to try to get him somehow off rhythm a little bit and make him feel uncomfortable.”
3) Cameron Dicker Making History
Cameron Dicker is looking to make history on Friday night. Dicker has attempted 97 career field goals, making 92 of them—a 94.8 percent success rate. With three more attempts, Cameron Dicker will definitely reach 100 field goals this year.
He’ll be eligible for the NFL’s all-time field goal percentage list, which requires at least 100 tries.
The Chargers are ready for the season to get underway! Chargers fans are excited to see the Bolts again this season.
Chargers football is going to be even more fun and exciting.
