Patriots “Open” To Trading Breakout Playmaker During NFL Draft

April 25, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Kayshon Boutte Trade

First-year Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is remaking the team in his own image, and the first order of business could be a Kayshon Boutte trade. A sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the LSU product didn’t do much as a rookie but broke out during the 2024 campaign. One of the few bright spots during Jerod Mayo’s short-lived tenure, the wide receiver finished the season with a respectable 43 receptions for 589 yards and three touchdowns. While he’s far from a future All-Pro, he demonstrated an ability to make plays down the field and come through in big moments.

Unfortunately, that may not be enough to save his job. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, Vrabel and company could trade Kayshon Boutte if the right offer reaches their desk. The wide receiver probably won’t net more than a late-round pick, but if the Patriots fall in love with a Day 3 prospect, they could decide he’s worth the risk. While Boutte isn’t a star, the following four teams could use a proven depth option like him on the roster.

Patriots Open to Kayshon Boutte Trade – 4 Suitors Emerge

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers collectively have a high ceiling but a low floor. Rashee Rice may not be healthy, Marquise Brown struggled during his first year with the Chiefs, and Xavier Worthy may or may not be a starting-caliber wide receiver. With former star tight end Travis Kelce slowing down, this team could use a proven set of hands to support Patrick Mahomes. Kayshon Boutte has a similar play style to the present-day version of DeAndre Hopkins and could fill a similar role in a trade.

Dallas Cowboys

Historically speaking, the Dallas Cowboys prefer to fill their roster needs with trades instead of free agent signings. After all, this is how they acquired Jonathan Mingo, Trey Lance, and Joe Milton in recent years. Now, the team could revisit the New England Patriots and discuss a potential Kayshon Boutte trade. CeeDee Lamb is one of the best receivers in football, but this team needs better depth to compete in a loaded NFC East. Boutte alone won’t get the job done, but pairing him and a second- or third-round pick with Lamb could give the Cowboys the offensive firepower needed to compete.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have the biggest competitive advantage in football: a franchise quarterback on a rookie contract. Jayden Daniels and head coach Dan Quinn brought this team to the NFC Championship Game last year, and they should only improve with their offseason additions. Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel are a solid one-two punch, but they could benefit from additional depth with a Kayshon Boutte trade. Boutte started for New England last year, but he’ll probably be better off in a complementary role.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers spent big in the offseason, upgrading the offensive line, running back, and defense. However, they mostly ignored the wide receiver position, which came as something of a surprise. Ladd McConkey looks like a young superstar, but Mike Williams is nothing more than a reclamation project at this stage in his career. Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games with a run-first offense, but he’ll need someone other than McConkey to catch the ball. Kayshon Boutte is a natural trade target, and his muscular frame should help him see the field as a blocker on outside runs.
