The Carolina Panthers or Los Angeles Chargers may finally sign 1,000-yard free agent wide receiver, Hunter Renfrow this regular season. The former Pro Bowler remains a free agent as week one is in the books but he may sign soon with a roster. There have been multiple links and sources that are urging teams to sign Renfrow to a new deal but he may not be the same player anymore so he would probably earn a reserve role. Three years ago, he notched 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns from his former quarterback Derek Carr.
Renfrow’s impressive play earned him a new extension with the Raiders but Las Vegas is moving on after one year into his contract. The wheels have been falling off for him as Jakobi Meyers is his new replacement after recording just 25 catches for 255 yards. However, rosters could sign him immediately since they don’t have to give any guarantees to veterans after week one so the only way a team will bring him in is if they need some emergency help. The Clemson product still has one last shot in the league after establishing himself as a reliable slot receiver but a change of scenery could be beneficial.
Teams like the Panthers need a new toy to work with after the disappointing output of Carolina’s offense against the Saints. Renfrow could probably fit into the scheme with older Adam Thielen in the slot to share some reps while they accommodate Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette. Johnson’s contract is up after this season so it’s all about what’s working for Bryce Young by the end of the year. However, the Chargers need a replacement for DJ Chark since he’s on the injury reserve for a couple of weeks.

Other Possible Destinations
New Orleans Saints
Many are still expecting the Saints are going to have a flawed season despite their fiery offensive performance against Carolina. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed came in where it counted while Derek Carr put up three first-half touchdowns. However, they could benefit from adding some familiarity in the system for Carr especially if guys like A.T. Perry need to go through some growing pains before he takes on a bigger role. Carr is on the hot seat and would need to get this team to at least the playoffs and they could do so by adding Renfrow.
He may not be the same athlete as three years ago, but he and Carr share chemistry. Renfrow excels at getting open and provides Carr an opportunity to get quickly out of the pocket and throw the pass. Unfortunately, the Saints have one of the worst offensive lines this year so Renfrow’s presence could relieving.
Baltimore Ravens
If Nelson Agholor does not improve his play behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, it may force the Ravens to sign another immediate wideout. Agholor hasn’t been excelling like the Ravens were hoping so it shouldn’t surprise many if they sign another veteran like Renfrow to get in the rotation with him. He probably won’t provide much of a difference but it’s a chance to see if he can improve with a championship offense. It would benefit someone like DeVontez Walker who is still adjusting to the league this year.
Dallas Cowboys
It’s relieving for Cowboys fans that CeeDee Lamb is returning for another four years. However, they have an older Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert which will be his first time in his starting role. No one should expect Tolbert to get a fast footing since the Cowboys are a young team. Renfrow may not be the same but his presence in the slot could provide some reliability for Dak Prescott if he goes under pressure in the pocket. Tight end Jake Ferguson has been his go-to but he’s dealing with an injury so Renfrow’s addition could give him some breathing space to recover.
