Packers Starter Skipping Workouts Following Contract Dispute – Trade Could Surface

May 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Elgton Jenkins Contract

The Green Bay Packers have big plans for interior offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, but they might need to revise his contract before he sees the field. A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Mississippi State product has made a name for himself by moving all around the offensive line while providing a high level of play. A two-time Pro Bowler, Jenkins spent the 2024 season at guard but will likely play center in the upcoming season.

However, there could be some drama behind the scenes, as the offensive lineman has not reported to voluntary offseason workouts. While this won’t be a serious problem unless his holdout continues into mandatory minicamp, Jason Wilde of Channel 3000 reports that Elton Jenkins wants his contract re-worked ahead of the season. As of this posting, the veteran has no guaranteed money remaining on his deal. The Packers will probably convert his salary, but if they don’t, several teams should be willing to trade for a valuable offensive lineman with positional versatility.

Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are building a strong offensive line under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater form one of the best tackle duos in football, Mekhi Becton had a great season at guard for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Zion Johnson is a fine starter. The last glaring weakness is at center, as Bradley Bozeman is better as a versatile backup than a do-everything starter. Harbaugh wants to win in the trenches, and upgrading the center position could give this team a top-five offensive line in football.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are moving forward with Sam Darnold, which means they must do something about their offensive line. Darnold has historically been one of the worst quarterbacks when facing pressure, and Seattle’s interior offensive line leaves something to be desired. Anthony Bradford and Sataoa Laumea were active liabilities last year, and first-round pick Grey Zabel has yet to play an NFL down. Elgton Jenkins could easily start for this team, and the Seahawks have the financial liberty to re-work his contract and add guaranteed money.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have a strong offensive line but need someone to fill in at center. With Drew Dalman now in Chicago, someone must snap the ball to Penix and clear interior rushing lanes for Bijan Robinson. The trade for James Pearce shows that the Falcons believe they have the pieces to compete in 2025. Now, it’s time for them to go all-in on the opportunity provided by Michael Penix’s rookie contract, trade for Elgton Jenkins, and make a push for the playoffs in a wide-open NFC South.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, but no team is without weaknesses. While they have great tackles and a reliable center, their guard position needs some work. Daniel Faalel and Andrew Vorhees are nothing to write home about, and Elgton Jenkins could be a considerable upgrade on either player. With an elite offensive line supporting Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson, no defense could stop this team on the ground or through the air.
