Overwhelming Cowboys Injury Update Could Trigger a Trade – Chargers, Ravens, Saints Top Fits

January 24, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

trevon diggs injury update

With the offseason barely getting started, the Dallas Cowboys receive bad news regarding Trevon Diggs injury update. According to multiple reports, there’s a chance the Cowboys will have to conduct their training camp without one of their best corners on the team. The star will undergo surgery on his left knee after suffering several injuries already since the 2023 campaign might not intrigue the organization to keep him much longer. The Cowboys luckily got Diggs in time for the 2024 season but it wasn’t too long before the cornerback went back on the IR.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former two-time Pro Bowler is just years removed from his outstanding 2021 campaign, recording 11 interceptions that brought the secondary unit promise. The Cowboys will need to make some tough decisions this offseason regarding their financial situation, especially finding a way to extend pass rusher Micah Parsons to a long-term after extending Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb last offseason. Injuries have been the Cowboys last season so this is something the team can’t afford when the 2025 season is still days away.

While some may have hoped Diggs could return, there’s no guarantee he’ll be the same cornerback everybody remembers he was. Standout DaRon Bland has his fair share of injuries as well but that’s something they won’t have to worry about until the 2026 offseason. Dallas should allocate as much cap space now and find a potential trade partner for Diggs.

Disappointing Trevon Diggs Injury Update Could Trigger a Trade – Chargers, Ravens, Saints Top Fits

No Fly Jim

The Los Angeles Chargers went through their first year under head coach Jim Harbaugh as a success despite being a first-round exit. As much as he loves winning ball games with a hard physical defense, he must continue to fortify the secondary. Kristian Fulton will become a free agent but chances are, they will probably look for a significant upgrade since they have the finances to make a trade happen. The pass defense was still one of the most stellar parts of this defense but that should continue if Harbaugh brings in more help.

Rookie Tarheeb Still had his moments this 2024 season but it wasn’t enough for the playoffs to no surprise. The Chargers need a playmaker opposite of Cam Hart who is still adjusting to the league. Diggs might not be healthy in time but as soon as he steps on the field, he should have some type of impact.

Help for Baltimore’s Secondary

The Ravens’ secondary was one of the worst this 2024 season but that found some life near the end of that campaign. No one is taking Marlon Humphrey’s job but Brandon Stephens couldn’t step up in certain pass-defense situations. Tre’Davious White probably won’t be back which means the team should be in the market for a new cornerback. While they develop rookie Nate Wiggins, they should take a chance on Diggs.

It’s never a bad time for the Ravens to become the best team defensively, especially when they hadn’t had much success in the postseason.

The PiggyBank Experiment

Meanwhile, Mickey Loomis must find a way to get creative to improve their secondary unit. With Paulson Adebo testing the market, it would Kool-Aid McKinstry and a few rookies to embrace rebuilding a new regime. Since Marshon Lattimore is already in Washington, the Saints won’t be losing much if they bring on Trevon Diggs to see what he could do in a starting role.
