The Chargers announced early this past week its 53-man roster for this season.
Let’s take a closer look at the 53-man roster for Los Angeles and takeaways for Jim Harbaugh and his team.
Here are some main takeaways on the Chargers roster on offense, defense, and special teams for the 2025 Chargers.
OFFENSE
Quarterbacks (2)
- Justin Herbert
- Trey Lance
Trey Lance won the backup QB over Heinicke with a stellar offseason training camp. Lance also dominated during the preseason, which gave him a spot as the Chargers’ backup QB for Justin Herbert.
Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, still proved that he can be dominant in the league.
Running Backs (3)
- Omarion Hampton
- Najee Harris
- Hassan Haskins
There’s a lot from this group, but one in particular is Hassan Haskins. Haskins made a lot of good impressions, even though he had limited playing time in the preseason. The 2025 first-rounder proved he can be valuable, especially with his hard work from training camp.
Fullback (1)
- Scott Matlock
Scott Matlock’s versatility is going to provide the Chargers with a much-needed boost. He also brings extra depth to the defensive line for the offense.
Wide Receiver (6)
- Ladd McConkey
- Keenan Allen
- Quentin Johnston
- Tre’ Harris
- KeAndre Lambert-Smith
- Luke Grimm
Though Keenan Allen is back on the Chargers, the main takeaway is that Ladd McConkey is also on the roster.
After a breakout year last season, McConkey is definitely going to have a very good season now that he is going to be learning from veteran Keenan Allen.
Offensive Line (8)
- Joe Alt
- Zion Johnson
- Bradley Bozeman
- Mekhi Becton
- Trey Pipkins
- Jamaree Salyer
- Andre James
- Austin Deculus
The Offensive line is going to step up big for the Chargers’ offense, led by Trey Pipkins and Joe Alt.
Look for the Chargers’ offensive line to do its part this season in protecting Chargers QB Justin Herbert.
DEFENSE
There’s a lot to talk about how good the defense is going to be this season for the Chargers, but one in particular is the Outside Linebackers and Inside Linebackers for the Chargers. The Chargers’ defense showed really good plays during the preseason, and Jim Harbaugh is expecting more of that this season, like last year with his team.
Outside Linebackers (5)
- Bud Dupree
- Kyle Kennard
- Khalil Mack
- Caleb Murphy
- Tuli Tuipulotu
Khalil Mack, who is going to be a future Hall of Famer one day, has 107.5 career sacks. He sets the tone and standard on and off the field for the Chargers. Khalil Mack thought about retiring, but after deciding not to retire, Mack chose the right decision and returned for another run, and led the Chargers’ defense to the playoffs like last season. Mack improved a lot during training camp, and the coaching staff is looking more from Khalil this season.
Inside Linebackers (4)
- Troy Dye
- Daiyan Henley
- Denzel Perryman
- Marlowe Wax
One main thing about the guys here is how good they are all going to be for the Chargers. Led by vets Troy Dye and Denzel Perryman, who are back on the Chargers after signing with the team this past offseason. Perryman adds physical elements to a Chargers defense that was really good in creating turnovers last season. Dye is another guy to look out for this upcoming season. He’s proven to be a reliable linebacker as he made five starts on defense a year ago.
Specialists (2)
- Cameron Dicker
- JK Scott
Special Teams (2)
- Cameron Dicker
- JK Scott
The Chargers’ special team has shown the last couple of years that it’s the best, in particular from one of its best kickers since Nate Kaeding. That is Cameron Dicker. Dicker is one of the elite kickers in the NFL, making 39 of 42 field goals(92.9 success rate) from last season. Cameron Dicker also made history last season when he made a historic fair catch kick.
JK Scott is also another key part of the Chargers’ special team core. The punter has an excellent hang time when punting the ball deep into the opponent’s own territory.
This Chargers team has lots of talent on the roster. Jim Harbaugh has lots to prove in his second season coaching the Chargers.
The Chargers are going to be really good and looking to make lots of noise in hopes of making another playoff run this season.
