The Los Angeles Chargers are bringing back a coach that quarterback Justin Herbert likes quite a bit.
Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Chargers are hiring Shane Day as their quarterbacks coach on Jim Harbaugh’s staff.
He was most recently with the Houston Texans after serving as the Chargers’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021 and 2022. Herbert is a “big fan” of Day, per Garafolo.

Herbert had two really solid seasons when Day was his quarterbacks coach. In 2021, Herbert finished with 5,014 yards through the air, 38 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions and in 2022, he had 4,739 yards, 25 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions.
Reuniting the two is a good move as Herbert tries to bounce back after getting banged up this past season.
Herbert will also get to work with Greg Roman, who was just hired as offensive coordinator. He was most recently the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator from 2019-22.
