Tre Harris is expected to be a key contributor in his rookie season for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers are excited to bring rookie wide receiver Tre Harris into the fold.

The second-round pick out of Ole Miss is expected to be one of Justin Herbert’s top targets in the offense this season.

Bleacher Report writer Damian Parson thinks Harris could jump in immediately for the Chargers as a top receiver next to Ladd McConkey.

The Los Angeles Chargers struck gold by drafting Ladd McConkey in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft last year. His rookie season was record-breaking and outstanding all-around. He came in and immediately outproduced former first-round receiver Quentin Johnston.

Now, insert Tre Harris into the mix at receiver giving Justin Herbert another big and athletic playmaker to attack defenses with. In a perfect world, all three young receivers can co-exist together in the Chargers offense. Harris can step right into the outside receiver position left by the departing Josh Palmer in free agency.

Johnston is having a strong camp, tracking and catching the football. Harris’s ability to play inside and out creates matchup problems for the defense. He was one of the best receivers at defeating man coverage in college football and his draft class. Harris can create separation quickly and suddenly with good movement skills and hip fluidity as shown during training camp. Timing and rhythm will be pivotal regards to getting in sync with Herbert.

McConkey is set to be Herbert’s No. 1 receiver for the second year in a row, but the job of being his No. 2 is up in the air.

Johnston might have the inside track to get the role because of his experience within the offense from last year. He caught 55 passes for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in his second year in the league.

While his rookie season was unimpressive and alarming, Johnston has turned things around.

That being said, Harris could do what McConkey did last year and usurp some of those targets from Johnston, jumping him in the depth chart.

It all depends on what he’s able to do during the preseason and training camp.

Harris could make his Chargers debut Thursday in the Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT.
