Former Receptions Leader Still Available in Free Agency – He Should Sign in Coming Days

March 16, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

stefon diggs free agency

Former NFL receiving yards leader wide receiver Stefon Diggs is still available in free agency this offseason. According to several reports, Diggs is a top 5 free agent who is shockingly still on the market but at the same time, many teams are hesitant to take a risk on him. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the former Maryland product became one of the best receivers coming out that year before injuries have been slowing him down lately. Diggs will be coming off a season-ending injury which held him for the rest of the 2024 campaign if he signs with a team so suitors will be taking on a gamble if they sign him.

Even though he had a slow one-year season with the Texans, he put up six straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Vikings and Bills in his prime. It was shocking that the Bills made the move to trade him last offseason but it’s looking like they won the deal before injuries were starting to kick in. Despite the injuries, he’s already a capable wide receiver and while he won’t be in a starting role anymore, the wideout could fight for the WR2 spot. Diggs has been explosive to create some space and be a lane switcher, especially in his Minneapolis Miracle play so he could earn at least a one-year prove-it deal.

Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys were “very in the mix” of acquiring wide receiver Cooper Kupp. However, he’s heading to Seattle so the team will look at other options. This means the Cowboys are looking for a new wideout to pair with star CeeDee Lamb. Diggs is the perfect man in the Cowboys’ scenario since he could come a cost-effective bargain the team is searching for. The veteran will be effective as long as he can stay healthy and reuniting with his brother Trevon Diggs could rejuvenate his love for the game again.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are finally getting some help in the wideout department after signing Mike Williams to a one-year deal. Ladd McConkey is still the only capable set of hands since it might take Williams a few games to adjust back in the Chargers offense. The team signing Diggs would allow them to move on from first-round draft Quentin Johnston who had two depleting NFL seasons. Diggs might not be the permanent solution but it gives the team another wideout to work with for an AFC Championship run.

New Orleans Saints

After losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the team has yet to address the wideout position other than adding a depth piece like Dante Pettis. Chris Olave could wind up requesting a trade or release if the Saints don’t improve so the team should act quickly and sign a worthy wideout to take them to the playoffs. Diggs has the experience unlike Rashid Shaheed that can turn the passing game around for quarterback Derek Carr.
